One can never be too old or young for Who!
You speak the truth, my friend! That's one of the many things that I adore about this show - it literally has fans of ALL ages.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.
Since I'm of the 'hiding behind the sofa' generation of Doctor Who fans (we even used to pretend to be daleks in the 1970's playgrounds), I was really intrigued by the new Who. I was blown away by the storylines and character developments and the shoehorning of the whole concept into a 21st century feel. I'm sad to say, I've come across some old geezers who just hate the new Who, and consider it an abomination.
I was really pleased to see the enthusiasm on this forum, from people of all ages. In particular, I was gladdened to see so many young women into the show now - it's a testament to the new writing team and how things have changed in general. In my day, girls HATED Who. My wife, an American, wouldn't even consider watching the new Who, citing how crappy it was (in the 80s). After a year of putting it off, she finally agreed to watch a few episodes. I was sneaky and showed her Torchwood first. I knew she'd like it, and I eventually told her that it was a Doctor Who spin-off, and she should see how Jack came into the role. So she reluctantly agreed to watch Doctor Who... and loved it! Now she's as keen as I am.
Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of all this. Looking forward to S04E13 and especially S05 and Moffat in 2010!

Yeah, if something gets reinvented, there are always going to be people who can't accept the changes and will hold on to the old thing they knew and loved with all they have. And while I understand that in a way, I still think it's sad that they can't appreciate the new series for what it is.

And yes, these days girls/women love Doctor Who. I think that had a lot to do with the way that they've reinvented it, from day one there was a strong female character that was easy to relate to, and there's a bigger focus on the emotional aspects of the show and character arcs this time around. Not to say that we don't also love a good monster and the action scenes I think the audience is pretty much evenly divided between male/female watchers these days, even.

That's a very sneaky (but clever) way you got your wife into the show I'm glad she likes it now. To be honest, I think it's very very hard not to love this show, no matter what gender or age you are!

I think David Tennant also has a bit more snog-appeal than Tom Baker. I'm sure that counts for something among the female fans.
It's funny that you mention the strong female roles and the more emotional leaning of the new show. It was these aspects of the writing that impressed me most. "Father's Day", for example, was one of my favourite episodes despite the cheesy-looking monsters. As someone who lost his father as a kid, I would also be curious to go back in time and meet the man he was. jackie is a bit of a chav, but she is portrayed very favourably in that episode. She only spoke positively of her deceased husband to Rose, despite his real-life shortcomings.
I loved the fact that Mickey was Rose's bf, but she could still have strong feelings for another man - something that happens to people in the real world all the time. That she struggles with her feelings, treats Mickey badly at times etc. are all reality-based character behaviours, which I believe makes DW a series a lot of people can relate to.

That's a VERY valid point I love Tom Baker, but yes... David has quite a different sort of appeal to him

Yeah, all the characters on this show have very human flaws (even the Doctor, although he isn't actually human) and that's something that makes it very appealing and easy to relate to characters. I've said this before, but this show just feels so real to me, much more than most other shows I've ever watched, even if it's about a 900+ year old alien travelling through time and space in a big blue box

That is QUITE True! It helps the show gain more female viewers and giving the show strong female leads as well helps.
However I've been into sci-fi since I could literally SEE the tv, Star Trek was what I grew up on.

I've just recently My friend said to me if she could watch all of the Doctor who I have!!!!! I asked why and she said that because i'd made her watch a bit of it she liked what she saw and wanted to watch everything now!!!

Considering I've been here a few days and posted a bit, I should probably do this. I never seem to go with the order in which things should be though lol.

Name: Lois
Age: 16
Birthday: 2nd May
Location: Brighton, England
Favorite Doctor: Ten (although I've only seen Nine and Ten so I don't exactly have extensive knowledge lol)
Favorite Companion: Rose, even though I really love Donna too.
Favorite Doctor Who Character: The Doctor, although Rose is a pretty close second.
Favorite Season of Doctor Who: Season 2
Favorite TV Shows: Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Heroes. And Doctor Who obviously!
Favorite Movies: Mean Girls, The Scream Trilogy.
Favorite Actor/Actress: Ed Westwick/Leighton Meester
Favorite Musicians: Jimmy Eat World, Snow Patrol, The Fray, Avril Lavigne, Charlotte Sometimes.
Anything else you would like to add: I kinda drift in and out of the fandom. So I'm not that obsessive all of the time, but when it gets to the last few episodes of the season I get completely insane.
