yeah... maybe... as long as the toilet doesn't vanish and reappear when it makes that noise, I'm not taking any chances. No crawling into toilets for me

that pic of the Earls Court TARDIS is so cool! I really want to go there.

Quite random but I did not know that
Yeah, that and other effects came out of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. They did some amazing things, considering the primitive state of the electronic equipment available at the time. They were some of the same guys who went on to do the ambitious effects for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio plays.

I remember for S1 RTD saying how they could have used different sounds, or even had the TARDIS materialize/dematerialize in a different way, or a different sort of console room without the central column, but everybody wanted to stay close to the original. There are other sounds they use, like the sonic screwdriver and the Dalek ships, that are also still the same sounds they've used since the beginning.

I'm really glad about that. Why change something that works extremely well?

Also, if they'd suddenly changed things like that, it would've seemed like the new series was more of a 'modern remake' of the classic series, instead of a continuation.
