There is already an extended Doctor Whoniverse! It's called Big Finish.

They have come a long way in the 20+ years that Big Finish have been going. It speaks volumes in regards the overall quality of the stories that they have attracted the participation of Christopher Eccleston. He said that hell would freeze over before he worked for the BBC again, so here he is, bringing the 9th Doctor to Big Finish.

I like how many stories Big Finish has been able to tell and how many different actors they have been able to get to read for them :D A really lovely way to give the spotlight to characters who had so many new stories to tell
