I LOVE this episode I've watched it so many times, and I'll never get sick of it. I really love how they established the world of Doctor Who in this episode for new watchers, I like that you gradually find out more and more about who the Doctor is, through Rose's eyes, as the episode progresses, instead of just throwing all the information at you at once. I think having Rose as the eyes of the viewer worked incredibly well, and it made you bond with her instantly. Well, I did, at least

And now I feel like watching this episode!

I remember the first thing I thought, mid-episode, was "WTF is that show?" But as you said Val, you bond instantly with Rose and then it's so easy to get excited and discover the Doctor and his world as she does. I love the intant chemistry between the two.

"Rose" was a great premiere. The characters were all pretty well fleshed out and it made it so easy to get into the show.

before I started watching DW, someone had warned me that it was EXTREMELY cracked out, so I had actually expected it to be a lot weirder than it was

I guess being a huge Buffy fan also meant that I was pretty used to weird monsters in not always too convincing prostetics, so that helped

I didn't get any warning! I knew everyone was mad about this show so I got curious. It's 10 times more cracked than Buffy!

Buffy is classic Fantasy, while Doctor Who is Fantasy on crack! That's why it's so much fun (when it's not heartbreaking). It's not just the aliens, it's the writing and the way it's directed.

Bwah! that it is.

I love this episode so much, this was probably my tenth episode of DW, I started with AoG/Doomsday, and was addicted to BBC Three/UKTV Gold for the rest of summer 2006.

I just love when he goes "run!" and grabs her hand, that's one of many great moments, like the bit with Rose having to point out the london eye, and when he invites her a long for the send time and says "Did I mention it travels in time" and Rose has this adorable smile as she runs towards him.

But that's from a shippy POV, I think the episode did a great job setting up the world of DW for the new viewers.

I didn't get a warning either, and I can't compare it to Buffy. It was, and remains to be, the most cracked out show I've ever seen... and to think it all started with Rose for me.

Good idea, thanks Andie

I've known about Doctor Who for years. I've always been a sci-fi fan, and I saw a few eps as a kid, but I never really got into it because it wasn't on very often and only very late at night. It was harder to catch up on old TV series in those days too, before the age of the Internet and TV shows on DVD. I also have a friend who'd been trying to get me to watch the show, so when I heard about the new series I finally decided to give it a try.

I didn't see Rose the first time the CBC ran S1 of the new series, I think I actually caught bits of Bad Wolf/POTW first, then watched Rose the second time around. I knew the new series was on CBC, they had loads of advertising for it (far more than subsequent series, I guess because that was the year of the NHL lockout), but I didn't really manage to catch an ep until it was already most of the way through the first showing.

I liked Rose well enough, it was a good intro to the series and the characters. The story in the episode was pretty thin, didn't really stand out for me. It was the second episode, The End of the World, that really got me hooked, and that's when I started getting into the classic series as well.

No one gave me a warning either
I actually was a bit annoyed by all the DW talk on this board and LJ so I decided to give it a try and I also was like 'What is wrong with that show?'

Then I stopped in the middle of the episode and did not thought about it for a couple of weeks. Then I thought, I give it another try and somehow I immediately fell in love with it when I watched it the second time

Awesome first episode I love the whole storyline and how Rose meets the Doctor

Same here

I caved and rewatched the episode I'll never get tired of it. I know it pretty much by heart, and I still love it.

same here, I think I can talk along with the majority of the s1 and s2 episodes actually but I can't imagine ever growing tired of them!

I love Rose. There is a very light hearted spirit about it I always thought. The dummies weren’t really scary, it was a big load of camp and I loved the scene were nine wrestles with the prosthetic arm. It made me so happy and I had loved CE from Jude anyway so, yeah.

I love this idea, it’s like rediscovering the series, which is so great.

I loved this episode. I wasnt sure what to expect when I downloaded it because I didnt really know much about the show but wanted to try it out but it was such a great episode and it made me hungry for more.

DW maybe more cracked than Buffy but I think it has this amazing quality to have that humour and weirdness but still be amazingly moving and touching.

I haven't seen Rose in ages. Maybe I'll watch it tonight or tomorrow.

It is cracked but that's half the fun of it. Alot of thing are like DW but nothing quite compares to it in it's humor. The closet thing would be Hitchhikers Guide, imho.
