I would have welcomed having a classic Doctor appear instead of an exact clone for Tennant. That was actually speculated on that that would happen but it didn't. And it was meant to be the big finale for Tennant's era at the time, ending his last season on a high note, but then we get the tour in his very last story The End of Time. Both did the same thing, and it was not necessary in my opinion.
Back to Dark Water. I was disappointed the new Master didnt get to say the "I am the Master" line but persisted in being called Missy for the duration of both finale episodes.

true i think its was just a farewell to all things david and russel it was a huge goodbye

Yes she didnt get to say it i think they didnt want to leak it out to early

That is so lame. Even Derek Jacobi got to say it and he was only the Master proper for something like ten minutes. They could have given her false lines that would then be leaked to the media instead of what she was really going to say to Capaldi. Hey it worked for The Empire Strikes Back with Darth Vader.

Star Wars awesome .. I think they did do two versions of her saying two different things one as the master and one as rani

Turns out she was given false lines to throw people there on location off. But the line was something about being the Rani, when she was the Master all the time.

I can see her being the Rani without taking away from her performance. But the Moff had other ideas. I wonder why they lie and say the Master won't be in the series and then go and do a turnaround and include the character. RTD did this, and so did Moff.

Actually they did hint tht the master would come back so it wasn't a huge surprise for me really I was hoping it wouldn't come true

Sylvester McCoy kinda let the cat out of the bag back in March but I never thought for one moment they would change gender with the character. I was expecting Charles Dance or even Chris Addison.

yer but i dont understand why bring the same character back we have already done the master teh doctor has many other enermies that he can face

I have no problem them bringing him back, if they're going back to the Roger Delgado mould like Charles Dance would be. Because at his best, he can be a really terrific character. However, he's been portrayed as an OTT, retconned clown since he returned. And Missy was no better. Just makes me cringe when I think back to the way the character should be written

I figured the Master would be either played by Charles Dance or some other bloke in the news at the time that it was said had a good chance of getting the part. And who knew Sylvester McCoy would be right?Who knew he was in the loop to know what was being planned at any stage for the new series?
