Doctor Who General Questions Thread #1: Confused? So are we. We're here to talk about this.

Hi everyone!

This thread will be to ask anything that we don't know or confuses us about the show, storylines, characters, mythology, etc. As everyone knows, Doctor Who has been around for a very long time and most of us are not familiar with the show's lore. This thread will help us answer these questions and ease our confusion somehow. We'll try our best to answer the questions here.

Also please take note that this isn't a debate thread nor is it a thread to discuss the cast's personal lives. This will be questions about the show in general and anything that we want clarification with about the show (Hello Moffat!).

If you don't feel like asking your questions here, feel free to PM one of us instead.

Thanks!

Petra and Amy :)

TFTNT! :flowers:

I think I may utilize this thread often as I don't know a lot about the Classic era as I'm still currently watching the First Doctor rather verrry slowly.

Also the show has a lot of mythologies that needs to be discussed so this thread will help a lot. Granted we won't know everything but two (or more) heads are always better than one. :)

Awesome ideas ladies thanks for rhe new thread ..

I bey this board will go crazy cause DW is very confusing

L i N d $ @ y 05-16-2017 10:06 PM

It is. There's continuity but there are a lot of loopholes too, some unexplained. For me, the only way to enjoy a show is to not question everything but at least it makes sense to you somehow.

One Thing Remains 05-16-2017 11:28 PM

yes! There have been so many episodes where I am confused after watching it. Sometimes I get more clarity on rewatches but not always. So it will be so nice to talk about those episodes on this thread.

Including Doctor Who episodes filmed in other countries, would it be possible for the Doctor to be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most actors to play him? I'm getting set to watch another movie with Karen Gillan in it called Oculus. I hope she's more recognizable and wearing less makeup than she was in Guardians of the Galaxy. One time I was in a play, and my mom couldn't recognize me because I was wearing old man makeup when I was 14. What happens if this thread goes to the great thread place in the sky according to the 300 post count rule?

Fortunately she's a piece of cake to recognize because the only makeup they used was to try to make her prettier. I only have one question about the character she played in Oculus. Was the girl who played the younger version of her in Oculus the same one as the one who played Amelia when the Doctor first met her?

Karen Gillan sounds like someone who could stand to be my oldest brother's second wife if the way she acted in Oculus is any indication and she doesn't mind getting involved with a guy in his 60's. There was a scene where she called a dog she brought to a house Dog; and my brother has had countless miniature dachshunds that have died on him; and even though he gives them various names, he winds up calling each one Dog and making them think that's their given names. Imagine if someone tried doing that with cats or snakes. That would almost be like saying a big dangerous cat like a lion would mate with a common housecat except there is no wild canine species that won't mate with a dog that a lot of people keep as pets. If you ever want to get through a horror flick without getting too scared, it helps to try to find scenes that seem humorous.

Karen Gillan's character died at the end of the movie Oculus. Can someone please tell the name of one movie or television series where she's alive in the end and recognizable without too much makeup? Unless the writers and the producers of Doctor Who want to do a story where she's alive again, I want to pull it up on my mobile phone so I can watch it and see her alive at the end and looking recognizable.

I have an idea for a crossover story between Doctor Who and the Simpsons, but we'd need the angel statues to invade Springfield. The TARDIS and the angel statues hit Springfield, and Homer thinks they're a way to get rich enough to make his boss Mr. Burns look like a pauper. He gets a copy of the Wall Street Journal, and the Simpsons run to get close to the statues, so they can not only blink at the statues to get them to send them into the past but use the paper itself to make idiots of themselves by using the newspaper itself to play peekaboo with the statues as only Homer can do. Even Lisa's forced to go along with it because she not only feels obligated to honor her dad, but Homer makes sure the paper is spread wide enough to cover all five of them. The Doctor tries to convince them with warnings and psychic paper; but since Homer's never been listened to authority, they always have to get physical to stop him.

Hi Jason :)

I looked it up and it looks like Sherlock Holmes holds that record with over 75 actors playing his character through the years. Here is the article link if you would like to read it. It is a few years old but I can't find anything published with a later date Sherlock Holmes awarded title for most portrayed literary human character in film & TV | Guinness World Records

When this thread reaches 300 posts we will start a brand new one so we can continue the discussion :) This one will be closed but people will still be able to read through it if they want to check out our previous discussion threads.

Thanks for giving up your thoughts on Oculus staring Karen Gillan. I have not heard of that movie. As for TV shows or movies where she looks herself the only one that I am aware of is a TV show called Selfie. It was cancelled so it only got 13 episodes made, but she looks completely normal and like herself in that show. Her character however is NOTHING like Amy Pond but I still really enjoyed the show and Karen did a wonderful job in that roll. Here is a link to her IMDB:Karen Gillan - IMDb It shows a lot of different projects for her. I don't now if it's complete though because she his a UK actress and I have noticed the IMDB filmographies are not always complete for actors outside of the USA. For some it is complete but for others it is not.

:ff: has a no double posting rule. The last 4 posts in this thread (spanning about 4 hours of time between the firs and last post) are all yours. I am going to combine them into one post for you :)

In the future, if you are the last poster in a thread, you can edit your previous post and add to it. There is an edit message link in the bottom right corner of your post that will allow you to add additional text and ideas to your post without creating a new post.

This really only applies if you were the last poster in the thread. If someone else posts after you, you are free to create a whole new post. Also, if it's been longer than 24 hours since your last post, and no has come along to post after you, you are also able to create a new post and don't have to edit the old one

If you have any questions or I didn't explain something well please send me a PM :) I would love to help you!

What would make it funny if the angel statues invaded Springfield is that I don't know of any stories where the Doctor corresponds with someone who wants to hide their eyes because they're as stupid as they are greedy. I'll try to work on getting a story started if there's nobody else who wants to take the initiative.

And if some New Who episodes hark back to the Classic era (which I haven't seen), then I will have questions about that. :)

the5billionthquackwho 05-18-2017 04:02 PM

Will the writers let the Doctor be able to see before the thirteenth one gets here? If so, will there be all episodes about things that go bump in the day since there are people who are superstitious about Friday the 13th and think that it has to be night in order for something to go bump?

Here's a Doctor Who joke about why the Doctor or any Gallifreyan could say he or she loved someone from the bottom of his or her own heart. If someone asked him which one, he'd get confused.

I will have some questions too Lindsay. I have watched the Classic series but I don't remember all of it. I haven't done a rewatch of the older series since the new series came out. I am sure I have forgotten more than I remember
