Doctor and companion exits must be a stressful time for the BBC.

I'm sure they were informed ahead so they can at least audition/look for replacements right away.

I think so too. I think they already have the next Doctor and companions lined up before the current ones leave.

well i think they do take awhile cause they discuss with the actors a whole year before hand that a good time to start looking for a new person

we judging by what they have said they generally tell the writer earlier on

that makes sense. The writer's need to know which Doctor they are writing for since they are all very different in the way they speak and react to situations.

And usually Doctors take longer on the show. We haven't had only one season since Christopher. I'm assuming Jodie signed for 3 years too.

ill be surprised to i dont think she would chris had his reasons to leave and i think uk shows dont do the long contracts like the us does

She did Broadchurch for 3 years although that show had fewer eps. Plus I think they shoot longer for DW too.
