That's why it was so heartbreaking seeing Rory & Amy taken back in time by those damn WA. The Doctor became the best friend of those two.

They were a kwirky team, and I loved that. I loved that they broke the Doctor/CompanionLoveInterest dynamic.

I never really felt that there was a Doctor/Companion love interest. Maybe because I used to watch the older series as well. The Doctor has never become romantically involved with a companion. I think the Doctor flirts sometimes - but that is all that it is.

I think the producers feel like a love interest will work in this generation now. But I dunno. I went to watch this show not really expecting anything romantic. If I like a pairing then great but it's not that kind of show where shipping is a big deal, imo.

Even though they did hint at a romance with Rose it never really happened with them because the Doctor left her with a carbon copy of himself so the carbon copy is who may have eventually had a romantic relationship with Rose. The Doctor may have had romantic feelings for Rose, but he never really acted on them.
I never really thought of River as a companion since she is sort of like a Time Lord herself . To me it made more sense for the Doctor to get involved with River since she is a human/time lord hybrid of sorts. Yes in the older series there really wasn't even any flirting going one. Lindsay I could see the new producers thinking a romance between a Doctor and his companion may work, especially since they cast some much younger people as the Doctor such as David and Matt. I actually like that there isn't much of any shipping on the show. It's refreshing and a nice change because shipping is usually plays a much larger part in popular TV shows. |

Yeah, he never did. I think the Doctor was afraid too since he's a Time Lord and he regenerates and can come in and out a time period. It's not really wise to have a relationship with someone like him if you're a human.
That thing with River though, they can never meet at the right timeline. __________________

yeah you're right and that's probably why he has never pursued a relationship with a companion before.
I feel bad for the Doctor and River always being out of sync in their personal timelines |

They were never really going to meet in the right timeline, it's really sad.
This art still makes me laugh. __________________
