It was about half and half for me. I enjoyed Chris Eccleston's performance and Billie Piper's, but the OTT moments were a bit much...I also liked Clive's workshop and hate how they killed him off so quickly.

I agree. Wasn't a big fan of the acting of Clive, but the idea of the character was a good one.

He was convincing enough that my friend-on first viewing- asked if he had been an important character in the old series.

I know right? He could have actually met the Ninth Dr that would have been so cool. Or at least in some way played a larger part.

They could of definitely worked more with that idea cause people would of definitely noticed unless torchwood/Unit took over and kept it quite?

UNIT is another thing I am peeved about with the new series. Its nothing like it was and I dont like it.

Completely agree. So much of the show is not like it was sadly. It feels like the magic and the joy of the 70s has gone and replaced with a well oiled machine with little soul to it.

UNIT had a family feel and was run by a small but loyal group of military soldiers who were as every bit as important to the series as the Doctor.
Now it has its members dying in mass quantities and their run by Kate Stewart who does very little to inspire me. Tim is right there is very little soul left to it.
