Yes the first Doctor definitely could have used a personality adjustment! The classic episodes do get better but it's tough to get through the first ones to get to the better ones.

I guess because when watching New Who first, the Doctor is more action-oriented. He gets down and does the dirty work. The First Doctor, since Hartnell is an old man, he lets his companions do some of the dirty stuff. So in a way, he's relegated to just staying in the TARDIS or not really fighting off his enemies face to face (at least from the eps I've seen). Because I'm already used to the pacing and silliness of the New Who doctors, the First Doctor took a while for me to adjust to.

Yeah and I do know that the rest of the Classic Doctors are much better so I need to get around to finishing Classic Who soon.
