What could have been just another bunch of forced Halloween stories turned out to be pretty great, however, blending humor and drama seamlessly as the show always does. "Orange Alert" was yet another example of why Parenthood will never be that popular and why it's so good. Slow-moving, nuanced and understated, it's just that true to life. At 10 p.m., NBC’s sophomore Parenthood finished a distant third, as usual, with a 3.7/ 6. One year earlier, former failed occupant The Jay Leno Show was stronger at a 4.1/ 7 on Oct. 20, 2009.

Last week we got 3.4 so I take it quite possitively. Not great, but we should not drop under 2.0 in demo, I hope. Though looks like Detroit grew a lot.

Why do they keep saying PH is coming in third when it keeps beating Detroit? I mean, they initially said that last week also and PH came in 2nd. It makes a difference.

these are just overnights results. It´s a share of how many people was watching tv that night, so PH will be always 3rd in this. The demo numbers will be out in 2 hours and since more younger people watch PH than Detroit, PH moves to the second place. I hope it will be like that this week too.lol The demo numbers are more important than this. I just posted it in case someone can´t wait for the ratings like I do.lol. You usually can say how bad/good it will be by the overnight numbers. I´m glad PH rised from 3.4 to 3.7 but all the 10h shows did (TGW 8.3-8.5 and Detroit 5.3-5.8)

Katka, thanks for explaining that. And yeah Ragga, it is confusing. I'm finding I do best when I just watch the numbers from one site- tvbythenumbers.com. That way I have consistency and the numbers mean something to me. LOL- my brain is not able to comprehend all the other numbers.

Yep, s3 is looking less and less likely. They don't really deserve it with those numbers, but you just never know with NBC. Who would've thought they'd give Chase a full season?

If the show is going to end after this season then I hope the decision is made early enough for Lauren and the other actors to possibly be part of pilot season, if they so desire.

Once you lose viewers, it's hard to get thim back.
They should take into account those around the world who watch it live despite the ungodly hours.

I don't know this for sure, but it seems to me that a good episode this week is more likely to help out ratings for next week as opposed to this week, if that makes any sense. Anyway, PH was consistently beating TGW in demos last season and is now losing to them by quite a bit. There's a reason for that and imo it goes beyond it being on NBC (though I'm sure that is a factor).

I suppose it's possible that in the finals that come out this evening they will go up 0.1 and match last week's rating. We can always hope.
