The closest the current production gets to stardom is Lauren Graham of "Gilmore Girls" fame on television, making her Broadway debut. The sad thing is that Ms. Graham shows she could make a terrific Adelaide (or any number of heroines in the musical comedy canon) in the right production. Here she is sabotaged by McAnuff, particularly during "Adelaide's Lament" where she is forced to move around a long dressing-room table and do bits of business, including sticking her tongue out at her own image in an illogical representation of a mirror. Loesser's brilliant, psychologically rich lyrics play second fiddle to the antics.

"We got lucky because Lauren Graham has such a spectacular body that it made sense to do that," Trujillo said.

I thought Lauren Graham was pretty wonderful, especially in the book scenes. She brought a lovely pathos and great humor to the second act in particular. Any weaknesses in her Bushel and a Peck were compensated for by her strength in Take Back Your Mink.
