BTW saw Simon Baker on Conan last week and he couldn't stop going on about 'Aussie' references! It got a little annoying towards the end, I was half expecting them to bring out the Tim-Tam's and Vegemite.

Do you want a scientific answer? Cause I studied it at university lol. The images you can see on Google are made up of a series of images, like a patchwork. If you look at pics on Google Earth they can be taken by planes that carry special cameras (which usually fly and take pics in stripes) but they also can be taken by satellites. In consequence the images are taken at different times with different weather (angles, clouds, sunshine, etc.). It's kind of the same with Google street view where the pics usually aren't taken at several times cause they use a 360° camera consisting of 9 cameras (one camera looks into the sky) but with different angles which causes the pics to be blurry when looking directly into the sun. They take a pic every 10m and merge everything together as one big street pic. It's kinda complicated. Took me hours sometimes for only a few pics lol.
