Great play-by-plays everyone! Shannon, it looks like maybe you liked it a tad more this time than the first time you watched it?

I hope to re-watch it some evening this week and give some thoughts.

Ok, now I'm embarrassed to admit it but I don't know what that is either.

Once you're finished laughing, maybe you can explain it Michele?

Heh, well I think Shannon knows now because they explain it in the movie. I was just laughing because of how she worded it when she was still trying to figure it out and doing her play-by-play. The Minis were just a social group Meryl's character belonged to. They did general do-good type stuff in their town, especially at holidays.

Looks like we all think the movie is tad slow, we don´t like the father and we wish Jules had a more screen time...lol

Loved the play by play Shannon was funny.hee.

Oh ok, I knew that much about the minis. I just thought that I was supposed to have heard of it before or something like that.

Haha, me too Debbie. At first I was like, maybe it isn't "minis" and it's supposed to be "Minnies" and they're supposed to do things for their Mickeys. Hahaha.

I think I watched it differently this time. I was trying to pay more attention to the characters. I think the play-by-play helped. I was able to focus on things that caught my attention

LOL. Yeah, I was thinking along the "Minnies" line also. But then I tried googling "mini" when you spelled it that way and all I came up with was mini-coops.

I watched the movie for the first time yesterday evening. Such a sad movie, I think I cried during the whole last hour lol. I have a lot of things to say, and too bad I can’t do it in French, it will be sooo easier for me. I can’t say everything I want to say and I’m always struggling to find the corrects words in English, so, I hope all I’m saying is understandable lol.

So, I loved the movie. It shows really well how each family members can react differently to the sickness of one of them, and how relationships can be complicated between children and parents once the children are grown up. I also love the evolution in the mother/daughter relationship. First Ellie is rejecting everything about her mother, she doesn’t even let her take care of her and at the end, the roles are totally reversed. The 2 mirrored scenes are really well done, even if it’s a little bit easy, but I think they sum up the mother/daughter relationship, and it’s a good parabole of the children/parents relationship in general, from my point of view. For the 2 scenes, I’m talking about the one in the beginning where Ellie cut her finger then broke a plate. She didn’t want help from her mother, but her mother helped her and took the place for the ceramic table. And toward the end, it’s Ellie who is helping her mother, and it’s her who took the broken plate to make the ceramic table. Speaking of the ceramic table, I thought it was a little bit too much that Ellie ended it at this particular moment of the movie but, well, it’s a movie, it needs to have symbols
And the acting is great (Meryl Streep ) but I still have a problem with Renée’s face and I don’t know why .

Of course, Lauren was great. So cute with her curly hair And I recognized the fake Rachel and Brandon & Brenda’s dad too

I got the Dill Scallion dvd in the mail a few days ago. I haven't watched it yet, but I had previously seen some of it and didn't like it at all. I'm hoping I'll like it more this time around. When will we start talking about that movie?

Hayley - I'll comment more when I get home and can properly think

Val - You better watch before we switch!

Debbie - It looks like 3 weeks is up this weekend So we can switch the discussion then. DS is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. For me, it never gets old. Lol.

ETA: Sorry it took a bit to respond!

It did show a great evolution of their relationship as her sickness progressed. *nods* I honestly don't think I picked up on these particular instances. Symbols fly right over my head.

P.s. Don't forget to gather up Dill Scallion!

Havent looked on YouTube. I doubt it's there though. For a while, it was hard to even find on DVD.
