Home Goods is a store that sells bedding, curtains, towels, dishes, cookware, small furniture, lamps, rugs, mirrors, prints, etc. Its prices are usually a discount off retail, so it's not a fancy store. (It's the housewares equivalent of Marshall's/TJ Maxx for clothes)

To give you an idea, I was having my family for Christmas one year, but only had 6 plates, so I was on my way to Crate and Barrel to splurge for a new dinnerwear set with place settings for 10. It was going to cost $350, so it was a big splurge. I stopped at Home Goods on the way, and found something very similar for $99 (I was very happy that I didn't have to spend my whole Christmas bonus on dishes.)

Makes me smile to think about her shopping for home decorating items in Northern California
