My favorite Emily/Lorelai scene is in the episode with Rory's dance where Rory doesn't come home that night. I love the motherly moment when Emily is caring for Lorelai because of her hurt back. And then the big fight the next morning. Wonderful acting by both Kelly and Lauren!

Yes, I love that episode as well. I love at first Lorelai and Emily are arguing and Lorelai is the daughter, then Rory comes home and the roles reverse and Lorelai becomes the mother, screaming that Rory is going on the pill.

Question for Shannon and any others that dislike Rory. What don't you guys like about Rory? And did you guys always dislike Rory from season 1 on, or was it a gradutal dislike that happened over the years? I am just curious.....

Friday Night Dinners certainly are classic. ESP the one in FNaFF in S6. So great!

Deana - Rory is a brat. It was gradual for me. She was 16 at the beginning. 16 year olds are...16. Lol. I didn't like that she was a push-over with Jess. I thought that she was horrible to Lorelai as the years went on. And her boy troubles aka Logan was my last straw. So LL got my full concentration in S5 and after... Rory was just there.

Though, don't get me wrong, I did find some things moving. Like the finale.

And I loooove when Rory finally stands up (a little bit) to Emily (because I always felt that she never did and left Lorelai out in the cold too much) in S6:

Emily:You're getting more and more like your mother every day.
Rory: You're gettingmore and more like my mother's mother every day.

BURN! Lol

Okay, got ya. Thanks! I was just curious.

I have to say that in the begining I did like Rory. The boys stuff didn't bother me. But like you I did think that throughout the entire series Rory did leave Lorelai in the cold when it came to Emily and Richard. There were so many things that Emily and Richard said to Lorelai and about Lorelai in front of Rory and Rory never seemed to stand up for Lorelai. Meanwhile, Lorelai was always putting herself on the line for Rory when it came to Emily and Richard. Like you said, it was nice to finally see Rory stand up to Emily in S6.

Once middle of S5 came (and through most of S 6) that is when Rory started to get on my nerves. Your right, she started to push Lorelai to the side and Lorelai didn't seem as important to Rory as she was in the first seasons. She was rude, obnoxious, belitting and condecending toward Lorelai. It was frustrating for me to watch because Lorelai/Rory relationship is the one thing that I loved about that show.

I completely agree, Rory totally got on my nerves in season 6, and i suppose the latter half of season 5. I hated the whole Living in the pool house storyline, that just bugged me soo much! Rory was so inconsiderate and most definately Belittling towards Lorelai the enitre time, it was as if she had forgotten that Lorelai has put her life on hold for her since well, forever.
The scene when Lorelai is standing outside the window of the pool house gets me everytime. Argh the frustration of it all! I really didn't care as much for Rory as a character then as i did in the first 3 seasons. I love rory in season 1-3, but once Yale hits imo she changes.

However, i don't think GG would be the same without her. I mean it is the Gilmore Girls, and the show is based around them. In a way its good that everything wasn't so happy happy all the time. In my personal opinion, i know most of you won't agree, but i don't believe anything in GG shouldn't have happened, but thats really only because i believe so much in the saying "Everything happens for a reason".

im one of those fans who loved every time lorelai & rory had a fight because it was always acted out so well, the only time i suffered was when they didnt talk for months because the relationship they had should have never had to go through something like that, but its always good to have a big fight like that i think it kept all the fans every week.

What do you mean by "they never should have had to go through something like that"?

I thought that it was very real. It was a good storyline that wasn't dealt with in the best way, I think. But I really enjoyed the whole S6 rift... ideally anyway.

I don't really agree that they shouldn't have went through something like that, coz as Shannon said it was a real storyline, in that it was believable and showed that not even the perfect Mother daughter relationships are perfect.
I may sound like im contradicting myself here but im glad they included the storyline, but thats not to say it didn't really irritate me coz well, God it did!!

I get what you are saying, Sam. I think what annoyed most fans about begining of S 6 was like Shannon said, it was the way it was handled. I didn't mind that they fight happened, but (my opinion) is it went on a bit too long. The history of Lorelai and Rory was that they were usually able to talk. Yes, they didn't have the perfect relationship and they weren't always able to communicate, but I guess what I am trying to say is that given Lorelai and Rory's history, neither of them would have not spoken for as long as they did in S 6. I think that they each would have eventually broken down spoke to one another much sooner then they did because they missed one another so much.

Deana i agree..I do think that the essence of Lorelai and Rory's relationship was the fact they were able to tell each other everything, and communicate with each other so well. I think maybe thats what annoyed me most about the whole "rift"..along with the fact that Rory seemed completely oblivious as to the effect it would have on here mum. i think maybe what the writers were trying to do was show Rory trying to be independant and make her own decisions, thinking she could cope. Well Whatever the idea was, i do think that they handled it wrongly also. It was i think, now that you say that, dragged out far too long.

I agree with you, Sam I don't think the problem, especially with the so much discussed later seasons, lay in what happened but in how it happened, at least for me it was like that. I didn't have a problem with the whole Rory-Lorelai-rift or how the season ended for LL *hides* (don't get me wrong, I didn't like it either, but I somehow understood it and that is what matters the most for me) because the whole time, in every scene I felt that I knew where the character's (often stupid, wrong or unreasonable) behaviour came from. That's also why I had much more problems with season 7 than season 6 because suddenly I found myself watching it and constantly wondering "How did he/she get from saying this five minutes ago to doing that in the following scene?" I just couldn't understand several character's actions anymore, although I didn't think that the whole direction the season took storywise was that bad *hides again*.

As for Rory, since someone asked earlier, I wouldn't say that I hated her or something, I just didn't care for her that much since the beginning and, no offense, but I think at least part of that is to blame on the acting And that lead to the fact that I just couldn't forgive Rory some of her mistakes as easily as I would have forgiven them if Lorelai made them.

I agree about the acting, although when you consider that AB had no acting experience before GG she did ok. She's no LG though!

Speaking of AB, I was at the movies yesterday and there was a huge poster there for her upcoming film, "Post Grad". Hers is the only name above the title and she was the only one on the poster. I was impressed...

the way i meant it was that seeing how these two were so close as mother & daughter that you would never expect a major rift like that, but i did enjoy watching them act it out because it was played so well by both lauren & alexis

There's one girl on facebook that went to the WB lot and took pics of what's left of Stars Hollow. Lorelai's house looks very springy with all the flowers lol.
