Well I don't think he's played a gay character but there were a number of jokes about Chandler being gay. Maybe it's more of an inside joke and just didn't get the response they expected.

I just like that they went for it and the presentation wasn't over the top. Pity Betty White didn't get to go on stage and Mike O'Malley didn't win for Glee.
