5.09 Emily says hello Episode Discussion (Nov. 16)
 

Rory (Alexis Bledel) decides that she and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) should split up at the next Friday night dinner and confront Richard (Edward Herrmann) and Emily (Kelly Bishop) separately about ending their separation. However, Emily dashes their hopes of a reconciliation by announcing that she is ready to begin dating. Meanwhile, Lorelai invites Christopher for lunch at the inn, unaware that Rory had warned Christopher to stay away from her mother. Feeling guilty that she hadn't told Luke (Scott Patterson) about seeing Christopher, Lorelai confesses that they had lunch, and Luke "convinces" himself that he isn't jealous.
Melissa McCarthy, Yanic Truesdale, Liza Weil, Sean Gunn and Liz Torres also star. Rebecca Rand Kirshner wrote the episode directed by Kenny Ortega.

And she didn't. Good girl.

Her delivery of "hello" to Emily was hilarious. Oh my gosh, what a great quote, except it's just that simple: hello.

I loved the ep - Lauren was great as usual and boy was Lorelai the connector between all the storylines in this ep.

I loved this Emily/Lorelai exchange:

Lorelai: Hello
Emily: You get over here right now.
Lorelai: Who is this?
Emily: This is you in 20 years. Who is this, I swear.

Also loved the follow-up at the Gilmore Mansion when Emily throws the clothes past Lorelai onto the bed "Oh God, Chanel attack".

Definitely. I think that's another reason it had a very season 1 feel.

In the promo did Lorelai spit her drink out rather than just choke on it or did I just imagine it.

No, she did a real spit take in the promo. I'm glad I didn't tape over that. It was pretty funny. :D

i loved this ep.. the kiss at the porch was great .. i also adored the scenes between Emily and Lorelai

Emily: I´m ready to start dating
Lorelai: a man?
Emily: no a weasel!

i was so cracking up in this scene .. and when emily asked lorelai what she should say if she wants to get to know someone and lorelai told her "Hello" and in then when Emily told lorelai that it was her fault that shes having a date and Lorelai was completely confused and Emily told her "i used your sentence .. you know .. "hello" " this was hilarious

Loved this episode, Emily was so funny lol with the date thing. Tho I loved when Rory and Lorelai split up and Rory was being subtle to get her point across whereas Lorelai was just blunt and to the point... in typical Lorelai fashion.

"Do you think you and dad will get back together?"

"Absolutley not"

"Okay, got any peanuts?"

Laughed so much there. And when Lorelai was commenting on Emily sitting beside her on the couch :lol:. I loved this episode :D

RRK wrote a wicked-ly hilarious version of Lorelai in this week's episode. Of course, throw Lauren's impeccable delivery on top of that... and voila, classic. The Tourettesian tics of Lauren, in those lines like "Okay, got any peanuts?" are awesome.
