Welcome to the Joel Turner Appreciation Thread

The Story:
In the first series of Australian Idol, some amazing talents were unearthed - among them, 17 year old Brisbane boy Joel Turner.

Joel mesmerised the judges with his extraordinary instrument - one voice with the ability to recreate an orchestra. He didn't make into the finals but featured on the Unforgettable stage at the Opera House grand final and since, has made extraordinary head roads in a genre that is literally booming. Joel Turner & the Modern Day Poets have just released their first single, "These Kids...".

The BeatBox Battle
Mark Holden & Joel Turner will be the official judges of the competition and 2003 Idol semi-finalist and current host of Video Hits, Axle Whitehead, will MC the event.

The winners will perform on stage at the Australian Idol Grand Final.

Yeah he is really good i was amazed with his singing voice too he is just the whole band drums bass singing I was blown away by it hey! he is cool!

The new beat on the block
Young Australians have developed their own distinctive form of rap. It's music with a social conscience and it's giving previously silent minority groups a voice of their own. Patrick Donovan reports.

And when 17-year-old Brisbane rapper Joel Turner's friend committed suicide, he expressed his feelings in song: "Nobody knows the suffering they go through, and you wouldn't believe 'em if they told you."
Turner says his group, the Modern Day Poets, sing about issues close to their heart. "We're not doing the American rap thing. It's not guns and swearing, it's our thing," he says.
When he performed in Brisbane at last year's auditions for Australian Idol he was told by judge Marcia Hines: "You have a future, not as an Australian Idol , but you pursue that future."

I freakin' love this song. It's so fabulous. And wow, he can sing. I never relised that he could sing, I thought he could only beat box.

His voice is so lulling. Man, I am such a fan. I can't wait to get the album. Hang on... is there an album!

But yeah, the song is fabulous. And I'm so proud of him, for using the exposure that he got to create great music.
