if he was at the Crash, he might not have dared talking to Isabel (she did look rather pissed after all when we saw her serving) and just have watched her, totally awed

Yeah, I could picture Alex walking in, seeing Isabel in the waitress uniform and stopping suddenly, shocked.
Then ducking into a booth where he could watch, yet she wouldn't necessarily see him or say anything to him (because she really wasn't happy with her short-lived career in the restaurant business, was she?). Quote:

Yes it did make sense for Alex to stop by the Crashdown to check on Maria and see how Liz was doing. However he could have been out of town it seems that Alex disappeared a lot over the seasons in certain eps maybe he was being abducted and that is why he was out of town.
