I think bringing back Alex as a ghost was a forced way to try and bring closure to his character for the fandom.

They knew they couldn't reverse his death, and they wanted to force Isabel to move on with her life, so they had him appear in a cameo role as a ~ spiritual guide ~ who was telling her that Jesse was the right man for her.


Basically, they were trying to relieve Isabel of any guilt she might have felt over moving on with another guy after Alex. I felt it was too soon and the way Alex died was so cruel that it seemed unfair to me that the writers were just expecting the audience to get over it in Season 3.

I agree with that actually - the selfish part of me was glad to see him/Colin, but at the same time I found it so sad and actually it made it harder for me to let go of Alex! Especially knowing there was a new man in her life already.

Bringing Alex back in season 3 tore my heart part. It was so heartbreaking to see him as a ghost! He should be been alive with Isabel!

It's sad, because as an audience member, you're caught between being thrilled to see Colin have more screen time with Katie in Season 3, but then you realize that's the only episode he's gonna be in, AND it was a final goodbye to the Alex/Isabel relationship


I would have liked to have seen something like Liz have an episode where she has dreams of Alex, saying her own final goodbyes to him with Maria. It all just felt so sudden in S2. --- Which I suppose was the point, to show the finality of death, I understand but I still feel we were robbed of an amazing character when Alex died.


How did you all feel about Isabel's love life in Season 3? Did you like Jesse? Did you find it an odd storyline? Did you want her to be with Kyle? Or were you still mourning for the unfulfilled Alex/Isabel love story?

I liked Jesse, but I wasn't over Alex so I didn't want Jesse to be there I would have preferred her with Kyle because at least we would have seen some relationship progression first. Sadly I don't think I ever got over her and Alex not being able to be.

I liked Jesse just not with Isabel.

I think if they should of gotten together it should of been at the end of season 3 not right in the beginning.

I know for one was still griving the lose of Alex and I think it would of been better to see how Isabel dealt with it instead of having Alex come back as a ghost.

We could of seen how she felt confortable with Jesse if the writers wanted to keep Jesse in the picture in season 3.

However over all I just wanted Alex back!

I thought it was annoying how they started to build up Kyle/Isabel then just dropped it.


It's like it ran through the writers' heads, "maybe we should have done this instead because they have good chemistry, but we're already in deep with the marriage thing so guess not"


I think Jesse and Isabel were a nice couple, but it didn't feel like it was right for this show. Know what I mean? It felt too normal.


I know that normality was what Isabel was striving for, but the difference between Jesse and Alex is that Alex was already a part of the group and in on the secret. There was a history there that Alex became accustomed to because he knew Maria and Liz, whereas Jesse was on the outskirts, looking in and not really wanting to be a part of it.


I think when Jesse asked to join her at the end, Isabel was right to reject him. I don't think he was thinking clearly. He was thinking as a husband who loved his wife, but not as a man who still has other aspirations in life.

I think she was right to reject him too And I didn't like how mature she had become in season 3, she was just out of high school but acting like a housewife already. It was weird.

I wanted her to stay young and carefree (well, sort of ) with Alex

Jesse I tought at times was clueless! Even at the end here he is asking her to come away with him! Hello your life as well as Isabels is in danger! This is not get on that plan kid like in Casabanca! It's real danger!

I thought it was the only time when Isabel was back to her old self and thinking straight!

I wish Alex was still alive in the end! It would of been beautiful! I felt Alex was the only onw who knew her and he was the only one she trusted!

She told him her deep dark secret and he still loved her anyway! True love right there!

Agreed I think they did that just to do something majorly different with her. They didn't want her to be the stuck-up high school girl all the time, especially after Alex died. Plus, they were trying to make the point that everybody takes turns after school's over (we all know that Season 3 took various turns, several awkward ones.)

In a way, I liked what they did with her, because I think it showed on some level that she was still grieving for Alex, and she was trying everything to distract herself from sad memories of their time together

I imagine things would have turned out a lot differently for her character if Colin wasn't written out due to his movie career success. I often think about it, because Season 2 might have been a lot different, too.


Very good point It did seem as if Jesse was trying to romanticize the idea of running away in the end, and Isabel was done living in a dream.
