^ I don't mind the college idea, at least that's something different. I think I'm having the most issue with them using the word 'reboot', like I said above if it's different characters and a different story, that's not a reboot, that's just a remake. I don't like them trying to hop on the coattails of this show to promote their own show.

I'd even like the idea of them focusing on the kid max gave up. I know he's supposed to be fully human but say he develops powers he'd wonder why. He'd investigate his adoption and find his way to Roswell. That'd be cool. Plus it could lead way to appearance by old cast in available.
I think I with everybody where I'm just not okay with a complete remake and still calling it Roswell. __________________

If there is no tie in, it's a remake. A reboot has some semblance to the original. Like Buffy (while only a off shoot of a movie) started in the aftermath of the mayhem that the original movie brought to her life.
I think Hawaii 5-O has some possible semblance to the original series, although completely different. McGyver doesn't appear connected to the original show, so it seems to be a remake. Just taking the name. Dynasty is a very different reimagining or remake. Because it's the same characters, in different setting. I can see the name Roswell has alien possibilities in the name. So they is maybe why they want to keep it. A name like "Area 51," might be too on the nose. But still, the show is less than 20 years old. And has a very apparent cult following. So unless, it has some tie into the original series... Calling it Roswell, and having a new Max and Liz or similar sounding characters... no go! So if they plan to have Roswell just keep the name. It's a remake or better yet reimagining of the show. And as of now, I am not into it. Jason and Shiri made the show with their chemistry. And the others, the chemistry of the whole cast.... __________________

I agree with everyone and I am happy I am not the only Roswellian who is so upset by this!
Tigereyes Welcome back! So excited to see you! I freaked out when I saw your post! I missed you! You are the voice of reason! Preach it! As Roswellian from back in the day when Roswell was on the air we totally get it! Quote:
Poor Melinda her books were amazing and she deserves more then to see her original vision destroyed! If anything our Roswell was the clostest to her books and vision! I read the Roswell High books and this new plot is not even close to them. If anything our show was very similar to the books. This NOT a reboot it's a bran new show! I remember when Star Crossed came out and everyone on social media was like Roswell was so much better or OMG this show was done before it was called Alien Nation. Alien Nation came out in the mid 90's it was about Alien's in society learning to intergrate into the human race. Quote:
I am sure people spent a lot of hard earned money to buy those Tabasco bottles and on shipping to send them to the WB back in the day! It feels like our hard work to get 3 seasons was for nothing! I hate how the some (not all) of Roswell fans are rejoicing! Hello NOT a reboot! This is the CW crazy way to get us to blindly follow them like sheep. If it looks like an alien and talks like an alien it must be an alien! Sorry give me MY Roswell anyday! Roswell was a show ahead of it's time! It is timeless for a reason! It just bothers me how some not all fans are so eager to watch anything even if the show has the same name! It's just the name that buggs me call if anything else just not Roswell! Oh and if they use the same names like in our show of Max and Liz I will be really upset! It's bad enough they are calling it a reboot! No it's not our Roswell! There is only one Roswell cast to me. No one played Max and Liz like Jason and Shiri! Only one Roswell! It was a feeling like no other! 18 years later we Still Believe and we still believe for a reason! Sorry I am so passionated about this but I am! Roswell was the show that changed my life in so many ways! I am sure it all has touched you in some way as well! To some it was just a show but to others it help made us more human and made us believe in more! __________________

What originally caught my attention in the original was 1) the music, and 2) the cast chemistry. By the middle of the 1st season, Shiri and Jason were no longer seeing each other that way, and the character of Tess arrived. Although the series finale eventually gave a nod to the hope of "Liz & Max Forever," for me, the chemistry/romance of the "Pilot" through "Sexual Healing" episodes had long since fizzled. And then most of the original music was scrubbed from the DVDs because of copyright expenses. So I hope the reboot will somehow avoid these problems. My main concern is that Jason Katims has gone on to a lot more success, and I know nothing about The Originals or the person responsible for that show, who is to be heading up the Roswell reboot. Even though I was a somewhat older Roswell fan at the turn of this century, I had always thought I would live to see a reboot with new, young actors, so I don't have any of the negative feelings towards the reboot like others upthread. In January of 2016 I learned that I had inoperable stage 4 cancer. Obviously I survived. November 7, 2016 made me wonder why I had survived. This reboot is a sort of ironic answer to that specific disappointment, heh. |

Shapeshifer Nice to see you back posting here! Glad you are ok and in recovery!
One nice thing about this thread is it is nice to see older fans coming out of the woodwork! Nice to have you all back! Carina MacKenzie who will work on the Roswell Reboot aka New Show has only worked on The Originals, The Flash, and did a commentary video for the Vampire Diaries according to her IMDB page. Carina Adly MacKenzie - IMDb Intagram page for Carina MacKenzie. New photo posted on October 13th of her wearing the Crashdown headband! https://www.instagram.com/p/BaKYNqLl...n-by=cadlymack This already looks like it is going to be a disaster! Podmom your gifs are classic! So true! This thread reminds me of this quote from Blind Date! It's what we all thought I am sure hearing this news! Quote:

I am just annoyed. I am willing to wait for more information, but still I think this is a bad idea. They wouldn't dare reboot or remake Buffy because Sarah made it so memorable. And if they tried, they would make it a continuing chapter with Buffy's daughter or something like that...
So why not get the rights to the original, and tie it in? They think Roswell wasn't popular enough, so they remake it in a brand new image. And you wouldn't have the world melting down like if they tried to remake Gilmore Girls with a whole new cast, and characters... It's true though that if CW had been around at the time of Roswell. Roswell would have had more time. UPN got it from WB, and had no loyalty to it because they got it in a deal with Buffy from the WB. They wanted Buffy, and didn't care about Roswell... WB had Smallville from my memory to start up after losing Roswell. More brand loyalty. Roswell is a cult classic, and I like it that way. Why not try to get some of the original cast? I was watching the Laurie Depree mystery last night on Netflix. Roswell had a magical cast. The show had flaws. But it was something special. You can't replace that! Yes, most shows can be replaced in this day and age. But certain ones they wouldn't even try, or they would make it a continuing chapter. I wish they felt that for our Roswell. Because you could do something with it. Bring in the immigration twist. But focus on the original show! So it annoys me. __________________

When I saw reboot, I thought it meant a new show completely. But they are using pictures from the original and that's misleading. I still won't like it since it's nothing alike. For many years they've been ignoring the fans and now they try to act like they cared. She even said she couldn't use tabasco because the zombie show has it so she was going to try and look for alternatives. It's not even in the same "universe" as our Roswell. We should get them to change the name and stop promoting it with pictures from the original one

I have no problem with them using the premise, but not the same characters. If they call them the same names and attempt to tie them in to *our* Roswell I may have a meltdown. That's all.
Nobody will ever replace the original cast. __________________
