Having them be adults would be pretty good, but then I'd wonder if their powers would be developing quite late, or if it would start with them already knowing how to use them - I'd kind of want to see them develop & see them go through retrieving their memories as well

It could be that they all start out separated so their powers are weak, because when they're together as a unit is when their powers are the strongest.
