| Hmm, 2005? It looks like he's no longer an actor. I wonder how his character could have been accepted as the new sheriff. He didn't look like he was that clever or able to deal with dangerous situations. | I agree he looked a little clueless most of the time. In most states the sheriff is an elected position. | The deputy would become acting sheriff of Chaves county. He would serve until the next general election. At that time he would have to stand for election. | An elected sheriff normally would not be demoted, but would be removed from office or asked to resign. A deputy would be hired and can be fired.
