Hmm, 2005? It looks like he's no longer an actor.
I wonder how his character could have been accepted as the new sheriff. He didn't look like he was that clever or able to deal with dangerous situations. Didn't anybody control his work, or his abilities for this job? __________________

I agree he looked a little clueless most of the time. In most states the sheriff is an elected position. He might have been a better politician than a police officer.

But he wasn't elected to that job, right? He inherited it when Valenti got demoted (is that the correct word?), so how come a new election wasn't organized?

The deputy would become acting sheriff of Chaves county. He would serve until the next general election. At that time he would have to stand for election. Valenti could run to become the county sheriff in the next general election. Roswell is the county seat of Chaves county.

An elected sheriff normally would not be demoted, but would be removed from office or asked to resign. A deputy would be hired and can be fired. I thought Valenti resigned............
