She was more hesitant, because she thought this weird thing was happening to her body and it scared her, but he was so supportive and he even told Maria he didn't know what he was feeling. And their dialogue when he brought her milk on "Max to the Max" speaks volumes! "Michael, this can't be." "I know, but why not?" At that point, Michael was definitely feeling the pull of destiny and thinking that maybe it was really meant to be. He even says that maybe that's how things are supposed to be in their talk in the kitchen, doesn't he?

I think the fact that they're destined to be together probably scared them both, which is why it felt safer for both of them to go their separate ways when it came to romance. It doesn't mean they didn't want it, it just means they weren't ready for it. We're talking about 17 year old kids! Michael had a hard enough time acting like a real boyfriend to Maria, imagine getting together with someone he knew was his DESTINY! It must've been terrifying. So like you said, they put a pin on it but it was never a closed door.

I think once they matured and were ready for that kind of intense, meaningful relationship, and considering Jesse didn't go with them, it could definitely happen.

QUESTION: During my clip making, I did some marathon watching of seasons one and two and noticed something. The scene where Michael, Max, Isabel and Tess go to the pod chamber and activate the message left for them by Max and Isabel's mother is edited really choppy. It's pretty obvious that this scene as aired is very different from what was originally filmed, and I am curious. Does anyone know where I might be able to find the ORIGINAL shooting script?

That was definitely another factor that made them hesitant. There was so much at stake, 'cause they meant a lot to each other already. It wouldn't just be another relationship, it would be bigger than that.

This is exactly my thinking -- the point is made over and over how scared they all are, how many things they have to fear, and how a lot of those fears come from within. Michael was always scared of opening himself up, to ANYONE, and that included Isabel and Max. It took a long time for him to trust Maria enough to allow her to see the flashes, and he is pretty rebellious towards authority, so I do think the idea of having this grand destiny was a scary one to him, one he might have automatically dismissed. Isabel was similar -- at least until she learned about her past life as Vilandra from Whitacker and Nicholas, she was always putting on a performance, afraid to let people in, and I think learning about how Vilandra betrayed everyone she loved would have made her even MORE likely to believe in her destiny. But that doesn't mean destiny was something they wouldn't eventually have to deal with -- the thing is, if it's truly your destiny, then it's fate, so you can't really escape it,

And it's especially scary to learn about a supposed destiny when you don't have all the facts. What else did they really know about their past selves at the time? Nothing! They still didn't know their names, who they REALLY were, why they did the things they did, why they were together. And they're just supposed to accept that they are not themselves but other people who they know nothing of. Totally terrifying and something I think they had to deal with entirely on their own. But given that neither Isabel or Michael were with Jesse and Maria when the show ended, coupled with the fact that their destiny was never directly dealt with, I do think the door was left open for us. And even if it wasn't, well, it wouldn't have stopped me from shipping them anyway!

Wasn't this scene cut before this happened? I mean, it's an amazing moment, especially since it is RIGHT THERE IN THE SCRIPT, but there is a difference between what was planned and what we actually saw.

(Okay, I just watched them and have a question about the clips that start each of those -- there is one of Isabel and one of Michael, and the wind is blowing through Isabel's hair, she's wearing that animal print coat, and it LOOKS like its from the opening credits. Is it? I haven't seen those clips before!)

If it took him that long to open up completely to Maria, who he really loved and had been building a romantic relationship since the beginning, imagine how much it'd take for him to embrace a destiny. Like you said, it's something he automatically rebelled against (even though he was never as happy as he was in those visions) because he likes to have control over his life.

True. I think eventually they would be be drawn to each other the way they were when they were having the dreams, and they'd face their fate again. It's not something that just goes away.

I said this the other day to someone, but you know, even if Michael and Isabel had mentioned feeling like brother and sister every single episode, instead of the two(?) times it happened, it still wouldn't have mattered -- they were betrothed in a past life they can't remember where they were royalty and were full of angst and woe and died a horrible fiery death...and then had hawt alien sex0rs in a dream(!!!) which caused further angst and woe...which led to them learning they had this kind of amazing grand destiny to be together. NOTHING could have stopped from shipping them!

Damn right There's too much there, it doesn't matter if the writers tried writing them like "family". There are little moments, looks, lines, touches, that I think speak volumes, and they have so much history. They're just epic

I have heard also that both Brendan and Katie said that they chose to act the parts as though Isabel and Michael were not like brother and sister. Has anyone else read this? If so, I like that. I think it's normal that Michael and Isabel wondered what was true while growing up and of COURSE they would assume they were related, but even so, they weren't related, they didn't share any human or alien DNA, and of course being close while growing up could make you feel very platonic towards one another (which is a feeling/dynamic I've noticed often gets labeled as brother/sister).

Another thing I realized is, look at Isabel and Max -- they were super super close and way more affectionate than most brothers and sisters would be. Even right out of the pods, they kind of knew who they were to each other and that was reinforced when they were raised that way. But there was always an emotional distance between them and Michael, as though they also kind of knew on an instinctual level, even though they weren't sure, that he wasn't their family. Isabel wasn't the same way with Michael as she was with Max -- their bond was always different.

IDK, I just think the dynamics of their relationship to each other, all three of them, was already there when they came out of the pods -- Michael was apart from them, and that was no accident.

I was also wondering if there are any interviews or articles from back in the day where the destiny stuff was discussed by the writers or actors...

Edit: OKAY. So you were right, Tar, you got basically everything for the OP. I thought I had posted a Sarah McLachlan song but I guess I didn't. I did see two song choices to add on the last thread, Delerium's Fallen and Backstreet Boys' How Did I Fall In Love With You. But that's it!

You know reason #3? I was wondering what you guys think about it. I kind of think it might be more right if we worded that one like, "Because Isabel answered Michael's prayers", as he said to Max towards the end of A Roswell Christmas Carol. Otherwise it doesn't really seem like a GOOD thing, you know? She was kind of upset at him and Max for that.

That's very true, the M/I dynamic was never like the M/Max one. And it was definitely instinctively in them not to be like brother/sister. I don't think it was a coincidence that Max and Isabel ended up growing up as a family without Michael. They made that happen on some level.

That's why I hate it that I got into Roswell so many years after it was over, I don't know of any interviews/thoughts of actors/writers, I just go by the episodes I'd love to read some insight on the Cliffie relationship from the people involved in the show.

I think the Christmas Nazi thing is kinda cute, but you're right, it does sound better that way, and more posivite I'll go change it.
