4.did the creator not realize the importance that the music or songs played

5.did they not like the maria michael romance and bickering in the original?

for 3 and 4 I would say no and no
for 5 I would say they either didnt like them as a couple or didnt watch the
original.
To me it seems stupid to not want to cater to original fans, they need all
the fans they can get.

Also about charmed it was changed too much and was lame and boring
I dropped that after the pilot.
This is a different situation to Charmed. Charmed was made by CBS who part owns the CW. Roswell was made by Fox but Fox sold the book rights to Amblin. But Fox kept hold of its rights to its original show. Therefore the new show can do stuff from the books but only homage stuff from the original series.

They did so many little things they didn't have to in homage to the original show
- The Counting Crows was played, we know it was Max's 'sad' band in the original and the episode has that song as a hook. Its on the same album as Colorblind, the song played in the original series
- Carina has already said she's secured the rights to music from other key features of the original soundtrack like Dave Matthews Band, whether its the same track I don't know. all the episode titles come from 90s songs and the Crashdown jukebox will only play 90s songs
- In the flashback Max drives a jeep in High School and we see them driving along in it similarly to Blood Brothers
- The crashdown waitress uniform is practically the same
- They've given Isabel Tess' power rather than dreamwalking and I hear that isn't the last we'll hear of her even though they dont have the rights to use the character
-Maria working as a mystic doesn't feel like its from the book, but I haven't read them in years. OG Maria was the mysticism fan. Liz, Maria and Alex got their palms read in the End of the World
- Most of the actors look vaguely like the original actors. The Book Max is blond, Nathan Parsons looks far more like Jason Behr.

Oh, this aired, huh? I didn’t watch, and I’m not going to. Although I did see the shooting scene on Youtube. Not as much tension at all as the original. But from what that scene showed me, Jeanine is likely very good in the role of Liz, as I expected her to be.

The biggest problem with that shooting scene, besides it happening in the empty cafe, is the background music! They just used score music rather than a memorable song like they did with Sarah McLachlan’s “Fear” in the original. (One of the best TV music moments I’ve ever seen in my life, tbh.)

So Michael is bi now? Saw that coming. Surprise, surprise.

Well, to those who enjoyed it, keep on enjoying. I think the OG is the only one for me.

April honestly, I know how you feel about the OG and I'm telling you not to watch this new one

As I said a few times, Jeanine is the saving grace for me.

I also don't see any resemblance whatsoever towards any of the new or old actors Which I'm glad for, in a way.

I'm actually watching it as I type....I am surprised it is so much of a rehash of the original. Not impressed and it is making me just miss the real Roswell more.

I hear a lot of people making the comparisons of the new cast looking a lot like the old and I just don't see it. I've even see so many comments making the claim that Nathan and Jason are practically twins or the few who actually thought Nathan WAS Jason. Huh?! I don't see any resemblance between any of the old and any of the new.

I understand Carina wanting to put in homages and easter eggs as a tribute to the original show...but I can't help but think she's also doing it to generate interest from those who were/are on the fence about it. Using that idea to keep them tuned in to find all these little things. I know she's a super huge 90s music fan and hasn't ever wavered from that, so I'm not the least bit surprised she's using certain bands that were featured on the original (and she considers Counting Crows to be one of her favorite bands). That being said, the whole 90s aesthetic thing doesn't quite work as well this time, since these characters graduated high school in 2008. That's not saying they wouldn't know the 90s music and in Liz's case, having an older sister, she might know it more. But it seems so out of place in the timeline of this show.

Good or bad reviews, it's nice to hear what everyone thought. And I agree, to those who enjoyed it, keep on enjoying it. It may not end up being a show for me, but I wish the cast and crew best.

The music works because its what brings Max and Liz together, in the flashes they are always listening to music, from when they were kids, in the 90s.

All the cast besides Maria and Kyle seem to look more like their TV counterparts than book counterparts. That isn't to say its twinsies but as I said Max is not blond. I think they've cast the same 'type' of look for most of them. I'm fine with it being so similar, I don't watch multiple versions of Pride and Prejudice and expect Lizzie to end up with Bingley.

And it may just be me, but I feel like the show isn't sure what decade it wants to be and that's the blame I place on the showrunner. So to me, the music is a weird disconnect to what's going on and the timeline it's going on in. Yes, music is something that brought them together, but there's something about it that just work for me. It's likely that this is simply stemming from my own personal experience of being a kid in the 90s and going through high school in the late 90s/early 00s. It's not necessarily that huge of an age gap, but I've found that it's actually a very stark difference. My experiences with music and pop culture and experiences was wildly different than those who came a couple years after. But I doubt it bothers anyone else as much as it bothers me.

I haven't mentioned it before...but what's the consensus on the new pod chamber or this whole nail polish remover thing? I didn't like the new pod chamber, it's not really that well hidden and all it takes it removing a barely secured piece of wood? Yeah, seems shoddy. I also have absolutely nothing nice to say about the nail polish remover. I'm not sure they could have picked a dumber thing to use. I know we all have to hope that there won't be some dumb kids who watch this show trying that out, but we had kids who ate Tide pods and are doing Birdbox challenges. I have no faith left in humanity.

Since it's "based" on the original books and Liz has her original last name and a dead sibling, where is Maria's little brother? Where is Michael's alien brother?

I'm 2 years older than the characters, the same age as Rosa. Shows like Roswell and Buffy did shape my taste in music. When I was 16 I was listening to 90s grunge because it just seemed so cool and grown up. Do kids still go though the Nirvana phase? So its not that shocking to me. It makes sense that Liz would look up to her sister, want to be like her and listen to the same 'grown up' things as her. Then that is what she shared with Max.

The nail polish remover is odd but it doesn't correlate to the Tobasco sauce from the original. They ate the sauce because it tasted good to them. The acetone seems to be something else, it actively does something to them

The music thing is interesting because I'm not entirely sure what audience they're catering to yet - the CW skews young, but we all know that CW shows have fans of all ages. So I guess using 90s music would appeal to those of us who were teens when the original series was out, but seeing as all the characters are adults, I wonder how much teens would be interested in this show. No idea!

Here are ratings for the first episode, there's no live +3 or live + 5 ratings yet I don't think.

OMG don't even get me started on that. My friends and I were dying with laughter over seeing that nail polish remover scene in the pilot at New York Comic Con.

I mean really you can't think of anything else Max could chug to gain his powers back after he was draied from healing Liz.

I guess it is there take on Tasbasco.

Clearly it shows that the writers did not watch any of the original show let alone read any of the original Roswell High books.

When Max healed Liz, he depleted his energy so Isobel brought him nail polish remover that he went on to chug. Apparently this is how they gain their strength back after using their powers.

Yeah...it was as stupid as it sounds

So stupid. I missed my Tabasco!

Plus it was so random the scene and they never explained as to why Max needed to drink nail polish remover? Isabel hands it to him after she meets Max in the back ally after he heals Liz.

Any human who would drink that stuff would have poison control on speed dial asap!

Also Carina Adly Mackenzie is a huge Counting Crows fan she always posts about them on her instagram. So that might be why they used Mrs. Potter Lullaby in the pilot.

Funny thing is the song was released in 2000 and I think Liz's sister Rosa died before the song was released. So how can it be her sisters favorite song if she wasn't around to hear it.

If anything they should of used Dido Here With Me or I Shall Believe by Sheryl Crow that only the original Roswell fans would of known.

The reunion in the pilot for Roswell New Mexico is there 10 year reunion so if the reunion is in 2018 then they graduated high school 2008. You think maybe they would of picked a 2008 song.
