They made a mistake taking it out of high school in my opinion. The stakes are huge when you're sixteen and find a Romeo and Juliet type of love.

I still have major issues with "End of the World". But it was so painful to watch Liz sacrifice true love for the greater cause. And yet they proved no matter the timeline, they were destined for each other...

One of the reasons "I Shall Believe" instantly brings to mind Max and Liz when I hear it. The end is so bittersweet, with her dancing and he disappears.

Max and Liz were incredible. The pain, the passion, and the chemistry. Regardless of the show's flaws. Nothing can match them!

I am not sure I would categorize Departure on the same level to me. Departure has hope in the end. "End of the World" was pure angst that only has a song that gave a little bit of hope, if you take the lyrics as gospel to not give up. Departure has Liz saving the day. Max staying, and we're left with them in each other arms.

Sure they had a mountain to climb to try to get back to normal (or whatever normal could be).

But at least there was the beginning. "End of the World" just was angst and sadness.

He and Kyle became friends. But I think there was always a part of him that worried about Liz going to Kyle again. And to see those images of them in bed. Even though we knew it was all a set up. Still, it was his fear come true. And it made it all so more real. And I think Liz knew it. That is why she used Kyle for that purpose. It was not only the idea Liz moved on, and went with someone else. But that it was Kyle.

I hate Liz for coming up with that idea. Maria suggested it without knowing the truth of the situation. Given her situation with Michael and Courtney was so much different. It was uncomfortable.

Even then I don't think Max truly hated Liz. Or gave up loving her. Future Max was able to disappear because of the hurt, and disappointment but not the love disappearing as Max could never stop loving Liz.
