Personally all of the bad story lines I blame the WB and the writers.

However the over all core story line of Roswell I loved so much it surpassed the bad storylines

We will never know truly who to blame. Katims was the one behind the show, but the WB was making a lot of demands that season, because the show was struggling. And creativity, I don't know why did it given the show was struggling. It would alienate Max and Liz fans. At the same time you had the feud between Max and Liz in the wake of Alex's death which made fans even madder And then they go and write out Tess, and the baby... so the whole plotline was inconceived, and while it would give Max and Liz a lot to get over to truly reunite, with it hanging over their heads in Season 3.

It ultimately made Max and Liz stronger, but it was not a easy road to follow. Season 2 had a lot of interferance behind it...

Love those clips.

All that is true but he had the last word & let's not forget that tess was his creation ... and liz suffered accordingly.

Hottest couple in roswell.

But orchestrated by the WB demands. He had plans to bring Tess in a Season finale reveal in Season 1. But the show was struggling, and was in danger and the WB demanded changes... So they brought in Tess earlier than planned. And made it more conspiracy, and dangerous there at the end where they were figuring out what it all meant...

It worked, ratings improved a bit and the Tabasco sauce campaign saved the show. But it didn't help in Season 2 as the same happened again, although I think ratings were slightly higher... But the network was planning Smallville for following season, so they thought they could get rid of Roswell...

But UPN wanted Buffy, and they got offered Roswell too... And they took it. But only had loyalty to Buffy, and cut Roswell at the first chance...

Both Max and Liz suffered. Liz had the better excuse. Max didn't. He was a teenage boy fooled by his hormones. Neither looked good during Season 2. And Max at times in Season 3. Liz always had the better excuse.... "For the greater good, for Max's sake." She sacrificed a lot. And then in the wake Alex dying. She was doing it to make sure Alex's death was solved, and for the truth to come out... She never imagined the killer would be that close, or the truth and consequences to be that brutal.

I've heard the WB wanted them as a group to investigate Alex's death, but they used that plot to crap the group and of course Max/Liz. So I guess it was 50/50.

Liz and Max/Liz deserved better.

I hadn't heard that. I would think if they had, the show would have done it. Given the show was in it's dying weeks on the WB. But they did get a investigation, just Liz and Maria with Michael walking the thin line between both camps and it cause conflict within the group. And in some ways, there is story in it. Someone was dead. Someone in the group. And it pushed a lot of button is all of them!

And they had to figure out a way through it. And the show brought it back full circle to "End of the World".

I think Colin wanted off to do the movie right after the show wrote him back in after a earlier leave. And so the show decided to go into a bigger storyline, as they looked into bring angst for all of them.

There was a lot of drama behind the scenes. I don't think Katims had the creative freedom that we think he did when we was at the WB. A lot of the demands on him came from the network because he didn't have the ratings to back him up, and the show suffered for it. Especially in Season 2.

Well he was at a new network, and trying to entice the viewers. But then I love "Busted", and he did show the ramifications of all that happened in Season 2. It could have been much better, but then you had to figure out how to move on after that happened in Season 2, and all the angst and pain.

I think Katims was trying to get it back to the essence of the first Season. But so much had happened, none of them could go back and they had to figure out how to move on.

There was only ONE way to get it back, and it was that everything was a mind-warp, but he was stubborn and the show suffered accordingly.

As much as every fan would have wanted to make it a mind-warp or if Tess was pregnant, and the baby was human... to say Max wasn't father. I can see why they let it stand. It was consequences for both Max and Liz, and angst. If they made it a mind-warp. A reunion would have been too easy. They ran back to each other after "Departure", to make it all a mind-warp would be trying to wipe it all away.

Liz started in End of the World, with the creation of the new timeline. So in some way, she gets what she sows. If you start a new timeline, you have live with the results. If you try to push Max at Tess, you have to deal if he actually does go with her.... And Max has to deal with the consequences of being fooled by someone who betrayed ALL of them, and was a traitor in the midst. And sex sometimes does lead to a baby.

Making it a mindwarp or say someone like Kyle was trying the father would have been easy. And in some ways, I wish it had happened. But I think they wanted them to live with the results of Season 2. The results of their actions. And it also was angst, hanging over their heads so that their reunion wasn't easy... They were now seniors, about to graduate. They were no longer 16. They had to live with what they have done. And it's not always easy at the end of the day. Choices have consequences.

Busted definitely is a gotcha episode. It's fun. Seeing the Bonnie and Clyde-esque of Max and Liz. If only they could have made into a two parter, so you could fully deal with the ramifications of Season 2. But given they were on a new network, and trying to entice fans or new fans. And trying new techniques, I loved it. We saw Michael realizing what picking Earth meant, and trying his hardest to graduate but finding obstacles. And how it meant for him and Maria...

I still don't love Busted, but I've come to terms with it I mean to me, it could have been worse. I just felt like I was watching a different show, for a little bit.
