Of course, she could have tried to stay away from him but Max would end up winning her back and the writers could not afford that.

Ultimately it was what made them stronger. They were so young in Season One. So as much as it was painful, it was probably necessary. Now I wouldn't have gone in the directions the show did, some worked, some were too extreme. But it made them stronger, and I don't think they could have gotten engaged if they hadn't gone through what they did.
And especially going away to Vermont, and Chant Down Babylon strengthened their relationship tremendously. I just wished we had a few less obstacles, and a bit more happiness. When you think about, they got married with a tremendous amount of angst and very few happy moments. __________________

My issue: I feel this tendency of her to run has only 2 purposes a) to make Max and Liz's break up credible in s2, b) because they refused to give us an appropriate conversation in s3.
My poor babies were the king and queen of pain but the made it together. __________________

And then Tess came to town and wrecked havoc. Kissed Max, which Liz witnessed. It hurt as hell, and it was hell of a potential series finale if the show had indeed gotten cancelled after "Destiny". It was a very intense year, so I sorta can see why Liz needed to step back, and actually leave town. If she had stayed, she would have gotten pulled back into the group whether she and Max were together or not. And then later, everything that happened with Tess, and Alex's death, and then getting busted and the fallout that ultimately caused her to exhibit powers... It did sorta make sense that she needed time. It did make her look like she runs when it gets hard. But given what she was going through, going to boarding school allowed her to grab that normal life... Only to find too much had changed. Whether she and Max were together or not, she couldn't have that normal life she could have had at one time. Life was too different. And she was too changed for it... In some ways running in the end crystalized things for her. Of course it signified a break, and angst, but in the end, it allowed Liz at least with Vermont, to see what she wanted. She loved Max too much. So when she faced him dying, she was distraught. Then she got her miracle new chance. So she grabbed it. __________________

^ Let's say it was only convenient but I see your point and yes the post-changes episodes were very well executed but it was late ...

It was convenient sure, but it was television and very angsty, which made it all the more resistible for the show. Given they were better for it in the end, I'll take it. I just wished some of the obstacles hadn't happened, or done differently. They were stronger in the end. The Max and Liz of Season One, despite their overwhelming love, wouldn't have been ready to get married at age 18 without all they went through...

Max and Liz's Romeo and Juliet-esque like existence made it hard when you think of all they went through. They may have gone out on only one or two official dates. But it amazing in only three seasons they were strong enough to get married. __________________

I guess the saying is true when you know you know!
Max and Liz didn't have to date to know they had found the one! __________________

They could not be happy two consecutive episodes, they broke up the next episode of getting together officially, right?

They kissed in Heat Wave, and tried, but then Balance shut that down with Michael's illness and Liz's reluctance. Then Blind Date was her going out with someone else... Then they had Sexual Healing, and Tess came to town, and presto, hardship. And even when back together, Busted happened, and they were rebelling against being outlawed by Jeff Parker. Then they got back to normal, and presto, she started changing... I think I counted four official dates... The aftermath of Heat Wave, going to the movies that Topolsky was back and creating havoc. Then in the aftermath of being broken up for a year. They went on the skinny dipping date...and you know what happened. She was working Isabel's wedding, so that doesn't count as a date... Then after Vermont, they went mini golfing... And then presto, they were engaged and married. __________________

It was pretty remarkable. And it was only three seasons, and so much happened. And even their happy ever after had a tinge of drama was that they were on the run, and yet they stopped and got married. I am curious if they did it under their names, or not so was the wedding legal.
Or would they when they eventually got back to their family and friends, did they renew their vows in a legal ceremony. Because they would have been on the run under alias, which given their status and powers, would be easy to deal with but stopping and having a legal wedding ceremony, that might be tricky. __________________
