Hey Now Caps!

I thought I'd go ahead and start the new thread since we were done to the end. I think I did well on my final. I expect at least a B in Chem so wish me luck. But you know what sucks? I'm SICK!!! It was no fun yesterday trying to study and blow my nose every 2 minutes. I had to keep leaving the class to blow my nose during the final because I was turning into a mouth breather during the test and annoying myself. UGH!!! Being sick over the holidays is such a downer and I still need to go buy presents.

Scottie- Yup that's me. I even say it in RL. I heard that my word made it into the dictionary! How about them apples?

I'm happy that Michelle won and I can't believe how great Heba and Ed looked. I thought he'd stay the same to make his wife look better or something. Oh well!

LTL-I have like a 4 week break and then it's back to the grind. I'm glad to since I have a ton of books that I need to read because they are threatening to take over my room. I just got into Gregory Maguire (sp?) the author of Wicked. I don't have any book recommendations for you since I usuallly check out what you and Scottie are reading.

L2TM-I love that TB! It's a great show and the books rock! I can't for the new season in the summer!

Ok...my headache is just beating the crap out of me. I don't know if I'm making it to work tomorrow and that bums me out snce we're having our secret santa party and that is such a blast. But I don't think everyone will be thrilled to have me in there in my manly invoice and constant sniffling. Bummer!

This morning we went to Annapolis to see #1 son sworn in to the Maryland bar at the Court of Appeals. It was a very nice ceremony, and we were proud parents. One of the judges told a story about Margaret Brent, who was the first woman lawyer in the colonies -- in the 1600s! She was also the first woman to ask for the vote -- didn't get it obviously. After the ceremony, we went down to a restaurant on the harbor for brunch -- had oysters, crab balls, shrimp, flounder -- yummy!

What 9 words do you not want to hear before the holidays? "We may not have enough money to get paid." That is what I heard this morning for next week's paycheck. And if they find enough money for us to get paid then they are most likely going to either lay some people off and definitely cut our pay. Happy Holidays!

Nice thread Mar! So purdy and new!

Mar – congrats on your chem grade! There is a really funky cold going around, it seems to stick around forever. Did you lose your voice too? I have friends who’ve gotten the cold and lost their voice. No fun! I hope you’re feeling well soon. You just can’t keep a good girl down during the holidays!

Mar and M&M – did you know that the next season of BL is beginning on January 6th already? Wow, that wasn’t much time between seasons. There’s a clip of Heba being a real sourpuss on MSNBC but I can’t get it to work for me. Apparently she’s pretty p-o’ed that she’s actually the biggest percentage weight loser but lost out on the big money due to her nasty game playing on the show. America sure got it right. Oh well is right though, Mar. We’ll soon forget her.

Tiger – glad to know you’ve arrived safely. Have fun with the boys. And don’t stress about SIL, just try to ignore her.

LTL – wow, I’ll bet you are so proud of your son! There's been a whole lot of good stuff happening for your family in the last couple of months so congratulations! Sounds like you had a really good lunch too.

M&M – that’s terrible news about the job. I hope the situation improves and you don’t lose your job and get paid. I’m sorry that happened!

Jero – thanks for the update on Colin, I’ll try to watch it. I'd love to see him I've missed him!

My sister and niece arrive tonight from NC for the holidays and I’m so excited but I have so much to do before they arrive, like clean up the wrapping paper mess and clean up the house. I have no time to do it in and I’m getting stressed. So I’ll go take my yoga class tonight and de-stress. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea!

I might not be around much until after Christmas, I’m taking next week off so if I don’t get back on before Christmas, have a wonderful holiday everyone! Love you all!

I'm home sick ad i'm totally bummed about it also. Today was our Secret Santa party in the office and that so much fun. nothing like having a bunch of coworkers fight over some free liquor and crap! :lol; nope, instead I'm laying in bed resting. Thought I would check some emails and catch up on the board while i'm awake but I'm feeling sleepy.

Scottie-I have a super hoarse throat. If you were to to talk to me now, you wouldn't be able to understand what I'm saying. have fun with the relatives.

LTL-Congrats for son #2! How exciting! and no pressure with the books....I'm not kidding when i say i have a ton of books that I'm trying to catch up on! When you think of something I may like..share!

M&M: Sorry to hear what's going on at work. Over the years I've been laid off so many times (and so has my husband) that here in Detroit it's an expected thing. My neighbor just told me her husband got laid off and she doesn't work! Her husband also had a second job cleaning floors at night at a store. She just got one cleaning the bathrooms at Burlington Coat Factory! She's worked in doctor's offices before and a bank but hasn't worked in 14 years. It's hard to get a job here especially if you haven't worked in a long time. I feel so bad for them. They have two daughters. But, at least she has her parents to help them if they need it. Is your husband still working?

M&M, jero: I'm so sorry to hear about the job situations -- it's like a circle of bad news - no pay, no buying, more stores and business lay off or go broke, back to no pay. Where does it end?

M&M: I hope they get their act together so you have steady employment.

Mar: Too bad about missing your Christmas party! A man in my office also has been in and out with throat/bronchitis problems -- some nasty bug.

Scottie: Yes, it's nice to have good news for a change after such a long run of bad news. And in another bit of happy news, #2 son was married yesterday! They've had the license since Sept., but got a little busy with the baby. I had just enough notice to send flowers. We're promised a "real" wedding in the spring. I've already been referring to her as DIL2, so I'm glad it's official.

Hope your yoga class helped you deal with the last frenzy before your family arrived. At least I have 5 days until the kids come home and 7 days before the party. But I'm still in mode. Have a great time with your family and a wonderful Christmas!

jero: I meant to watch Colin, but I did Christmas shopping after work, and it wiped me out so much I was asleep by 9 pm! Then I slept til 8 am. -- must have needed it. I'll have to check out the ep online or wait for a re-run.

L2tM! Your poor neighbor -- Michigan has been hurting for so long. I hope the terms of the auto bailout help with the economy there.

Well that latest in the job saga is that effective immediately they will no longer match our retirement and are getting rid of long term disability. And we are going to have to take two weeks off without pay. But hopefully they will not cut staff or our pay. We have a very high rent for our office and the people will not consider lowering our rate so it looks like we are going to break our lease and we will be working at home until new office space is found. So much to deal with right before the holidays. We have a big conference call on Monday with the Board so we will see what else is dropped on us.

Luckily my husband's company is doing pretty well and his position is pretty secure but he is concerned about when he is getting his review and whether he gets a raise this year because they have cut their budgets as well. I really want him to get a raise but I'll be happy if he has a job especially considering how unstable mine is right now.

Hey there Everybody!!!!!!! I'm back.........

Hope some of you actually remember me!!!! Guess what I got for Christmas from the state of Virginia????? The choice of retiring or being laid off. Luckily, I have enough years to take full retirement. They even threw in an extra 6 years of service so the blow wouldn't be so hard. Yea, right! I'm still in the process of getting everything straight before the end of the year. It all takes effect the first of the year, so I'm on paid "holiday" until then. I got an email on Thursday from the IT manager that she wanted to meet with me the next day. So Friday afternoon I was told my position was abolished and I had to pack up my office right then. Of course, a guy from "security" had to hover over me while I was gathering my belongings. I understand the reasoning behind it, but it does make you feel like a criminal or something. At least I get to spend more time with my "baby boy". I will be so glad when this year is over and I sure hope next year is a better one.

I see I'm not the only one whose experiencing job woes.

M&M - sorry you're going through those problems again. It is the same company you had the problems with before, isn't it? I've been away so long, I don't know what's going on anymore.

Scottie - hope you enjoy your family for the holidays.

LTL - you have much to be proud where your sons are concerned. Hope you're doing well!

M&M: Hope your hubby's raise comes through. It's so nerve-wracking, isn't it? Even if you're still working, you're always wondering how long it will last.

mommac: It's so good to see your pixels and I'm glad you'll be around more, but. sheesh, what a reason! Thank goodness you're eligible for full retirement, but good grief! Our company does that, too, with having people pack up under the watchful eye of security. Really uncomfortable!

Back to another Lifetime Christmas movie. And I'm still not ready!!
