When a board is open for a moderator position a thread will be started asking for applications, which generally lasts for two weeks after which moderator(s) are chosen.

Fall TV and Mid-Season TV show boards generally are longer assignments in that the thread asking for applications doesn't open until about two weeks after the episode airs (I believe)

Given new boards generally the MSTs look after the board for about a month before the thread asking for applications is opened. You'll have a set deadline to submit an application. More information about applying can be found on Info Center.
