Thanks for the new thread!
I think high expectations were what ruined this trilogy for me. I couldn't really connect to the story or most of the characters, even though there were some really good performances given by the cast. It really felt like they were stretching too thin a material over too many movies. __________________

That's exactly how I felt, too, Fran. 3 was at least 1 too many.

Definitely. Too may plot point felts dragged on, and it ruined the tension and the pacing.
It's a shame because I thought Jackson' work with balancing the material in the original trilogy was incredible. __________________

Yup. Unlike LotR, there just wasn't enough meat in "The Hobbit" book that merited 3 movies.

Which makes the fact that they went through a few things at the speed of light, instead, kind of hilarious - Kili and Tauriel fell deeply in love in one day, and poor Fili had two lines in the final movie, then he got killed off and not even 30 seconds were spent on the dwarves mourning him. And I rarely nitpick about special effects, but the CGI of some scenes could've used some extra tweaking.
Oh well. The studio was greedy and tried to milk the story for all that it was worth, but two movies would've been more than enough and probably pleased both new and old fans anyway. __________________

I agree. Two movies and a tighter story might well have grossed more over time than the 3 they made.
Martin Freeman made uncomplimentary comments about spending almost all the filming time at green screens for the 3rd movie. __________________

Beautiful gifs!
If there is one thing that never disappoints in this franchise is how talented the fandom is. __________________
