It was very short lived, but had a dedicated fan base that worked very hard too try and bring it back.
It was with that role, that I knew instantly that one day Alex O'Loughlin would become a superstar. __________________

It was a likeable show, but it was a bit lightweight and the vampires weren't very convincingly vampires, unlike, for example, the vampires in True Blood.

The True Blood show was based on the books, so it was a well-realised universe.

The books weren't much use, though. It was HBO that realy made something of the material.

Personally, I preferred the True Blood books to the tv show. They had a lot of humour in them. I thought the casting for the show was good, but didn't see the need to glorify all the sex.

I preferred the books too. Maybe because I read them first....

I've only ever read the first two True Blood books.

I found the True Blood books pretty shallow and dumb, garbage really. It's the show that was great and that's down to the HBO style. The show was a masterpiece, a powerful work of art. I read three of the books and I found them to be just stupid potboilers. And the books kept trying to dehumanize the vampires, which is a totally different strategy than the show took. They pissed me off.
The books glorified sex as much as the show. There's even a scene in which Eric is masturbating on Sookie's back without asking permission first. There was also at least as much humour in the show as in the books. The show had this whole satirical edge thing going. __________________

To each their own. I enjoyed the first books in the series more than the last ones. I never thought of the vampires as being dehumanized in the books. Rather I thought the author used them to reinforce people shouldn't prejudge based on one characteristic.
Yes, there was sex in the books, but I didn't find it near as detailed as it was on the show. __________________

Charlaine Harris kept throwing in remarks about vampires didn't feel this or that or didn't share x human trait, etc. It got pretty dehumanzng after a while. It's like she didn't want them to be people.

I don't think the books were particularly well written.
