I saw a Tales from the Darkside episode the other day featuring Jeff Conaway (now more known for his drug addictions than any acting role) as a writer and Roy Dotrice (Father on Beauty & the Beast) as his vampire ghostwriter. They had most of the usual lore except for one thing: a vampire can be reanimated by having blood dripped onto his ashes.

I also saw Embrace of the Vampire a couple weeks ago. It was the movie with Alyssa Milano as a college student being pursued by a vampire who needed to drink the blood of a virgin before a specific date in order to stay "alive." I think he also saw her as the reincarnation of his dead wife. Something like that. Anyway, it was mostly an excuse to get some actresses to take off their tops.

Embrace of the Vampire......now that's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time.

Twilight isn't about vampires, it's about teenagers with sharp teeth.
Vampires don't "sparkle" in the sun: they screech in horror, burst into flame and wither to ash.

Let's see, recently I've seen Desert of Blood and Vegas Vampires.

While Desert of Blood was not spectacular, it was somewhat unique. Basically a treasure hunter unearths a vampire and the vampire wants revenge upon the people who buried him. Since it's been 50 years a lot of them are already dead but he does find his former girlfriend, now an old woman, and one or two others.

Vegas Vampires, OTOH, is really bad. Bad acting (even by the actors who are usually good), bad F/X, bad dialogue, bad editing (at times it seemed it was edited to allow commercials even though I doubt it was a made-for-TV movie), just plain bad.

Does anyone here watch The Amazing Race? This week's episode featured a stop in Romania and one of the tasks, dubbed Vampire Remains, involved a coffin filled with picture frames that had to be slammed on stakes to find the one with a hidden flag. The ones without the flags had fake blood.

Well that would be messy.

I finally saw the first 2 episodes of Being Human yesterday (it's the BBC Vampire/Werewolf/Ghost mini-series). I'm not sure how much I liked it. The Vampires are antagonists, The main characters are a bit to whiny and emo for me.

My mom watches The Amazing Race. I saw some of that challenge.

So Dark Shadows fans...Dark Shadows Festival

Johnathan Frid who played Barnabas Collins will be at the NJ festival this August.

I went to one when I was a kid with my mom. It was kinda cool. Barnabas wasn't there then, but the actor who played Quintin was.

From last Thursday's (?) Jeopardy! -
The category was something about e-mails and the answer was:

TO: LOUISLOUIS
FROM: FANGSALOT
SUBJECT: DINNER I MADE YOU A VAMPIRE. LET'S HAVE ITLIAN TONIGHT. HIS NAME IS GINO.

The question was "Who is Lestat?"(from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicle's books) but no one got it right. The only one who buzzed in guessed, "Who is Dracula."

Vampire's Kiss: well, it was weird. And the vampire, played by Jennifer Beals, is really a figment of Nicolas Cage's imagination.

eta: I also watched Shadow Zone: The Undead Express today. It's about a boy who has a habit of stretching the truth/outright lying and his encounter with vampires in the subways of New York. The head vampire was Valentine played by Ron Silver, who passed away today (Actor Ron Silver dies in NYC at age 62 of cancer). It was a fun kid's movie. As for vampire lore, they stuck to most of the basics - no reflection, can't be captured on film, can't abide light. There was one point when Valentine said he needed an innocent to lead him out of the subway, but that may have just been because there were UV lights at all the exists that he needed a live human to turn off, although that doesn't really explain the "innocent" part.

eta: I just stumbled upon this story - Italy dig unearths female 'vampire' in Venice

Interesting story.

The reviews are interesting as well. Has anyone seen Bled yet?

Reminds me of the scene in Twilight when Bella does all the internet research and finds legends of vampires told all over the world.

Hrm, can you describe these so-called vampires? I don't think that I've seen them in it

Was it the 90's version? I saw it when I was cruising through my channel guide but didn't bother to stop to check it out. I've recorded several things on Chiller - mostly Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Tales From thh Crypt, etc.

The other weekend I saw a campy straight to video movie called Bitten. It was kind of awful but kind of fun. Jack is a night shift paramedic and he "rescues" a chick he finds in a heap near his place and later discovers she's a vampire. He tries to help her by bringing her a cat, then a bag of blood from his firestation, then drug dealers. Eventually things get out of hand. Anyway, the synopsis on my DVR said it was supposed to be about a guy who gets seduced by an 1850s vampire but there was never any mention of her being 100+ years old.
