The stuff in the book was cheesy, but this is worse than chessy. I think they should just stick the book for the major scenes. I'm just hoping they don't ruin the movie, but if they do, I'm glad that I have the books to read.

I heard there are rumours that Colton Haynes is playing Edward, Emilie De Ravin as Rosalie and Julie Benz as Esme. Julie Benz is definitely not who I picture playing Esme

Yes that is true the book itself is cheesy, but that type of cheesiness works. The cheesiness they are putting in the movie just seems to be over-the-top.

Yeah I heard that too.

I read the rumour also and I saw pics and he is OK. Of course he is not Chace Crawford for me but I am trying to keep an open mind here. I just tried to google Colton and see how old he is but I cannot seem to find his age.

Truth be told, I am OK with the casting of Kristen S. as Bella.

Now Emilie de Ravin, Julie Benz... I really hope it is not true. They are nowhere close to the picture I had of Rosalie and Esme in my mind.

I guess we cannot all be happy about the casting so we will all know how we feel once we see the movie. I just know the books are always going to be better.

I agree. The way that they portraying it in the movie is so over-the-top. I probably end up cringing throughout the whole movie.

Colton is 19, but he looks a lot older than 19.

Thank you PJ_Believer for the answer. He does look older than 19. I thought maybe 23-24.

I finally finished Eclipse last night. I guess that makes me in Team Jacob/Werewolves since I was unhappy with the ending. Don't get me wrong, I love Eclipse. It was my favorite book in the series at this point and I love Edward as much as everyone else but I found myself siding with Jacob and I think Bella is blinded my this "Eclipse" ans she cannot see the unhealthy side of her relationship with Edward. Maybe it is also because I am against the idea of Bella becoming a vampire. At first I was not sure about it but by the end of Eclipse I was sure. I don't think it is a good idea for Bella. I admit, the Epilogue had me in tears. I think the fact that I love Edward and I love Jacob makes it easy to keep an open mind and see both sides. I am unhappy with the ending of Eclipse but that doesn't take away the fact that I love the book, I love Edward... I guess my problem is with Bella at this point. No matter what, I cannot wait for the next book.

You're welcome, *Dominique*

This was posted on Stephenie's myspace...

For anyone who’s visited my site, this is not really news. After reading through your comments, though, I felt the need to reiterate a few things:

1) I did not choose Kristen Stewart to play Bella. Summit films choose her. I’m happy with their choice, but it was never up to me.

2) Similarly, I have no choice in the matter of who will play Edward, Alice, or any of the other characters. I have made suggestions, but no one at Summit is obligated to listen to my suggestions. They’re nice enough to let me bug them, but even that is more than I contractually have the right to expect.

3) Begging me to choose a good Edward is a waste of your typing time.

But since we’re on the subject of Edward, I’d like to give you all a little advice (the same advice I’m giving myself). To my knowledge, no one has been cast for the role yet, but here are some things for us to repeat to ourselves daily as we wait for the news:

1) Do not expect the actor who plays Edward to fit your preconceived notions of the character. No one is that perfect; that’s why he’s fictional.

2) DO expect that the actor won’t "look like Edward" to you. Try to be open-minded about that. Headshots lack the magic of makeup and lighting; they aren’t going to convey what the actor might look like on the set.

3) Do not expect a name you’re familiar with; do not expect the guy in your lexicon banner (who is probably too old, not a good enough actor, or not interested anyway).

4) No human actor is pretty enough to really pull off a vampire. What we are hoping for here is that magical element of screen charisma that makes all the difference in the world. Example: Pirates of the Carribean. Were you drooling over pretty Orlando? I wasn’t. I was taken with the drunk pirate in the eyeliner. Some actors can own any scene they’re in. Let’s not focus so much on the perfect face (which no one is going to be happy with regardless); let’s hope for an inebriated pirate. I.e. someone who can own a scene like Johnny or Joaquin or Jonathan Rhys, someone who will make us forget he’s not quite pretty enough to be a vampire.

Here’s my wish: that, after we find out who is going to play Edward, my comments page is not awash with "I can’t believe they picked HIM!"-s and "John Doe is the real Edward and no one else can do it!"-s and "I hate him! I want him to die!"-s. Can we give him a chance to become Edward? Can we let him try to convince us? I’m keeping my mind open. I hope I can keep my comments page open, too

Well, I'm trying to keep an open mind about everything. Yes Gaspard is my Edward. But I would like to see who they cast. & Now I'm ok with the fact as KS is Bella. Although I do hope they choose RLC as Alice.

Colton Haynes does not look 19 at all. Wow. Emilie De Ravin, is not a Rosalie at all, to me she isn't pretty enough. & as for Julie Benz... I love her, she is a awesome actress, she was the best Darla in Buffy & Angel. But no way is she an Esme. One she seems to old & 2 she just doesn't have that quality to be Esme.

Now I think we should concetrate on a new thread name.

Because It Will Always Be #1
Because The Series Is No Where Near Finished!
Because The Series Is Our Anti-Drug

"Let's hope for an inebriated pirate"

There's another idea for the thread title:
Because We're Hoping For An Inebriated Pirate

I like Julie Benz. She was great in BtVS, Angel and Roswell but I think she might be a little old for the part. I really hope they don't cast a too-old Esme, whoever they end up choosing.
