The Tribe Appreciation #1

From starpulse:
Arguably the most successful program ever to emerge from New Zealand network television, The Tribe was set several years after a mysterious virus wiped out the entire adult population of the Earth.
The only humans left were those aged 18 and under, who, in order to survive, formed their own small tribes, most of them predatory and violent in nature.
The series focused on a tribal group comprised of basically good kids who roamed the empty streets, decaying office buildings, and deserted shopping malls in search of food, clothing, and the necessary technology to stay alive.
Such vicious rival gangs as the Demon Dogs and the Locusts regularly pounced upon the characters whom the audience cared about, and there was never any forewarning as to who would still be standing at the end of each episode.
Not unexpectedly, several of the young actors on The Tribe proved to be extremely popular with teen and preteen viewers, though this did not in any way prevent the demise of several "likable" characters if the scripts so demanded.

From Amazon:
In the wake of a deadly virus that has wiped out the adult population, the children of the world must now survive on their own. The sophisticated hi-tech society created by their forefathers has collapsed into anarchy, confusion and fear. It is in the dangerous new world where the tribes must construct a new culture in their own image and learn that in the aftermath of disaster, there comes fresh opportunaty and new responsibilty. The future is their's to create.

In 'The Tribe' a group of children are attempting to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly virus has wiped out all adults. Amidst the anarchy, these kids must begin to construct their own new society.

From wiki:
The Tribe is a post-apocalyptic TV series primarily aimed at teenagers. It is set in a hypothetical near-future in which all adults have been wiped out by a deadly virus, leaving the children of the world to fend for themselves. The show's focus is on an unnamed city inhabited by tribes of children and teenagers. It was primarily filmed in and around Wellington, New Zealand.

Does anyone remember watching this Show?
I used to be addicted to it when I was like 12 years old.
I remember not liking it as much once the Technos came and a lot of the old cast left.
A few weeks ago I found an old tape of mine and watched some episodes again. And now it's like my guilty pleasure.
Any other fans out there?

Thanks for getting this thread started, Salene

I've heard about The Tribe, but never watched it I'm not even sure if it ever aired over here.

Hopefully there'll be some members around who have watched the show and can discuss it with you

Same here, heard off but never watched. I should see if I can catch a re run or something. It looks like a show that could be heaps of fun with all those unique characters (judging by the clothes)

You mean dying your hair, getting some weird outfit and wearing face paint wouldn’t be the first thing you do after some deathly virus hits the world?
It’s funny but at one point they’re running low on food and water, and yet they always seem to have an endless amount of make-up and hair dye.
But the clothes and make-up have a point, they show which Tribe someone belongs to.

The show is cheesy but still fun. And you can’t stop watching once you started just like with a Soap Opera.

I found a good Fanvideo about the first (and best I think) Season:

I hope that worked.

Hi JCS! I'm glad I'm not the only one who watched it!
I agree with you that the first two Seasons were the best, with Season 3 things just started to fall apart and then with Season 4 when a lot of the actors left and they had the Technos with their lasers and VR it was almost like a diffrent (an worse) show.

My fav were Trudy, Lex, Zoot, May, Jack, Alice, KC and Luke and I have a soft spot for Mega.
I'm torn on Amber she was great in the first Season but later I didn't like her as much. (I blame Jay ).

Who was your favorite villain?

I live in the U.S. so it was hard for me to find it on tv, so I only got to watch a season or two of it. But I used to love it! Glad there's a thread for this on here

Thanks

I will admit that I used to be a huge Jay/Ebony fan Though from reading a lot of responses to the show and forums, I think that must have been an unpopular ship.

Hello to the two other people in this thread

No posts in a while, so sorry for bumping this up out of nowhere, but I just had to stop by and say that I LOVED this show. I used to tell everyone that it had bad acting, bad writing, and absolutely ludicrous plots but I absolutely could not stop watching

My favorite character was Jack

But I also loved Jay, and I always LOLed about how he was either the first or second Techno to essentially join the Mallrats, but he NEVER got a new outfit. The Technos were defeated and he was still painting that "T" on his forehead every morning

Yea it doesn't seem like the show has a huge following on this site

Some of the plots were very out there but I was hooked as well when I watched it. I knew someone who was obsessed with the show and convinced me to start watching it. It became a quick guilty pleasure

I don't know if I had a favorite character. I'd have to say Ebony, Lex, or Salene probably, but they all had their good and bad moments.

I did love Jay also, and found it weird that he never got rid of the techno symbol. I'm not sure if he kept it to remember where he came from or if he just liked a "T" oh his forehead, but it was odd that he kept it either way

Well back in the day (does anyone remember Eyeboards?) it was very popular.
For me, I didn't care much for Jay and Ebony as characters but they had really great chemistry together imo.
Thinking about it, the only couples I really didn't like together were Jay/Amber and if it counts Gel/Lex. But I haven't watched the Show for a while so I might be overlooking some couples.

Welcome zuisa! Good to see yet another Tribe Fan!

This sums the show up quite nicely!

Lol, I darkly remember a scene where he was trying to get with Amber and was all like "But Amber, I'm not with the Technos anymore! Can't you see I'm with the Mallrats now?" while wearing his full Techno getup.
It's weird that they didn't just give him a new outfit, I mean Darryl got like two new ones. Oh well.

I have to admit that I only like Jay as eyecandy, for me he was just kind of a bland Character, a watered-down and boring mix of Bray and Luke. And once he went from Ebony to Trudy to Amber in one Season I really couldn't stand him.
