Threshold (CBS) Appreciation #1

About the show:

THRESHOLD is a suspenseful drama about a team of experts who are assembled when the U.S. Navy makes a chilling discovery: an extra terrestrial craft has landed in the mid-Atlantic ocean. Dr. Molly Anne Caffrey (Carla Gugino) is a government contingency analyst whose job is to devise response plans for worst-case scenarios. In a single instant, her life changes when one of those plans--THRESHOLD--is activated by Deputy National Security Advisor J.T. Baylock (Charles S. Dutton). Armed only with her hypothetical strategy to address the appearance of aliens on earth, Caffrey now finds herself thrust in the midst of a global crisis. She hand-picks a team of eclectic specialists to prepare for first contact: Dr. Nigel Fenway (Brent Spiner), a disillusioned NASA microbiologist; Lucas Pegg (Rob Benedict), a brilliant but neurotic physicist; Arthur Ramsey (Peter Dinklage), an expert in languages and mathematics; and Cavennaugh (Brian Van Holt), a highly trained covert operative with a mysterious past. Together, they decipher the intention of the craft, the fate of the ship's crew and begin preparations for the possibility of a crisis situation--an alien invasion.

Thanks for starting this thread. Did anyone watch the premiere tonight? If so, what did you all think of it? The promos have looked very intriquing ... but I was hesitant of so many Sci Fi based shows this fall.

Because this show deals with aliens/an alien invasion and ect. along those lines. I think it would be better for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy board.

Damn, I want to watch. I adore Carla. On the other hand Robert Patrick Benedict is like a nightmare... he always annoyed me on 'Felicity' or 'Alias'.

Carla Gugino is what attracted me to this show. I loved her on "Karen Sisco" and hated that it was cancelled. I will certainly watch this show every week.

I love this show.

I was actually quite surprised. I was hoping it'd be good, but I didn't expect it to be this gripping, and definitely not this spooky. Ethan is even worse here than he was on Lost!

Also nice to see the star of Karen Sisco again. *sigh*

The 'contingency analyst' thing is sort of what I want to do.

I was on scifi overload yesterday. 2 hours of Stargate. BSG, Sphere and then Threshold. I was tired. But I did enjoy the premiere. I adore Peter Dinklage and Brent Spiner. All the characters compliment each other very well. I'm hoping they don't have the "Freak of Week" thing going on because after watching all these other shows I want something different. I nearly died at the Star Trek references in the helicopter.

Ramsey: I'm sorry but I don't think they said and 'On the 8th day, the Lord created Klingons.'

I watched this last night and it creeped me out so bad that I had to change the channel a couple of times. I had watched the preview a couple of times so I knew that Gunnerson (sp?) was going to show up to bother Carla, and then I realized he was going to show up in her house. Thats just a wee bit spooky.

I thought the pacing was great, but I am almost wondering if the premier gave away too much. Like we basically kind of figure out how the aliens possess someone, what happens to them, we find out that Molly, Cavanagh, and Lucas all share the same dream, Molly's blood turns into a fracteral pattern, and that Gunnerson says that they are all connected.
I dont know, but they almost could have done that over a couple of episodes instead of a two hour premier. Maybe I am just wondering if its going too fast.

Also, I swear they need another member of the team, like another girl or something, I like all the team but I just think they needed another voice of reason besides Molly.

I will continue to watch, I hope alot of people do as well, I am diggin the thought of a whole lot of sci-fi shows being on this year.

It's definitely not the team I'd have chosen. I'd include a lot more girls. Also, basically more stable/dependable personalities. Even if these guys are supergeniuses or something, I'm sure there are brilliant people in all those fields less likely to try to bail out or spill the beans to the media.

I think all the quirky personalities should make for a lot of interesting television, though.
