Special Unit 2

Tonight SciFi starts airing the short-lived UPN series Special Unit 2. It lasted only 19 episodes and according to SciFi's schedulebot, all 19 will be aired by the end of March. The basic premise is that there is a special unit within the Chicago Police Department that searches out and deals with "missing links", aka various mythological beings, except, apparently, vampires.

The four main characters were:
Michael Landes .... Detective Nicholas O'Malley
Alexondra Lee .... Detective Kate Benson
Richard Gant .... Captain Richard Page
Danny Woodburn .... Carl the Gnome

Tonight's episodes:
The Brothers
Written by Evan Katz
Directed by John T. Kretchmer
Officer Kate Benson is recruited into Special Unit 2. Her first assignment: Help stop a mass-hatching of gargoyles.

The Pack
Written by James Krieg
Directed by Oscar Costo
Nick risks becoming a monster to infiltrate a pack of werewolves that are terrorizing the city.

The Wraps
Written by Joel Surnow
Directed by Terry Windell
A mummified samurai awakens and seeks to gather three female human sacrifices — and it intends for Kate to be one of them.

I saw a preview for this show....and if ever there was something that could make Mutant X look cool, this was it. I might watch it for comedy's sake.

Thanks for the new thread Dukesmom.

I had forgotten just how silly this series was. And the special effects could have been better. IMO, the acting in the first episode was pretty bad but was better in 2 & 3. It amuses me so I will keep watching.

By all means, continue being amused. If I can find time on Fridays (HA!) I'm going to watch at least one episode, to get a feel fo rit.

The funniest thing, IMO, is that creature that is locked up in the station because they can't figure out how to kill it. Characters randomly throw food onto the floor and it sends out a tentacle to retrieve it - no need for trash cans or a cleaning crew! I can't remember if Carl the Gnome was teasing it or not, but at one point last Friday it apparently got the idea he was food and latched onto him until someone (Kate, IIRC) threw it a new piece of food to distract it.

The Waste

Nick must cross his old partner to destroy a creature that feeds on human fat removed by liposuction.

The Depths

A beast from Lake Michigan steals the souls of virgin women — and Kate believes that her kid sister Megan might be its next target.

See, now hearing about the creature in the jail, that makes me want to watch it....that and the spider-women....though why choose spider women, when that screams vampire?

Because, according to Captain Page, vampires are pure fiction. Don't know why TPTB decided that, but they did.

Maybe they just didn't want to compete with Buffy & Angel so they decided to skip vampires all together?

Anyway, unless I am mistaken, Smallville's Superman, Tom Welling, was the first casualty in the episode titled The Depths.

See now, you bring up another good point. Any time you can see Tom Welling die, is a good show.

There is alot of silly humor in this show. At one point last Friday, Carl was trying to get at an itch on his back and resorts to "borrowing" Captain Page's artificial hand. He was not amused.

Yes, Friday night from 7-10 pm CST.

According to scifi.com, the 3 episodes airing 2/23 (below) are the first three of season 2. Apparently season 1 was only 6 episodes.

The Grain

Directed by David Straiton
A parasite known as the Sandman occupies people's bodies as they sleep and compels them to act out their darkest impulses, resulting in a baffling citywide crime spree.

The Skin
Written by William Schmidt
Directed by Oscar Costo
Nick swears vengeance when a shape-changing "link" called a Chameleon, which can read people's minds and appear as anyone it wants, returns to Chicago.

The Years
Written by Evan Katz
Directed by John T. Kretchmer
The unit tangles with a witch who feeds on humans' life-forces, turning young adults into withered old corpses.

How do you have a 6 episode season?
