The books are pretty awesome, don't get me wrong, but the series is awesome too. I'm a big fan of both.

Not only do I think the series does a comparable job to the books, but I think it even elevates the books at certain points. I mean, come on, you had to love the Brianna v. Clegane showdown. And the Red Wedding twist with Rob's wife made that whole scenario hit even harder.

My favorite part of the books is the consistent inclusion and working in of realm mythology and history. It adds another layer of depth that the series just can't capture unfortunately given its limited amount of time.

I think there are as many levels of appreciation as there are fans of the series and/or books. I tend to lean toward Book Purist, while accepting that the series can't possibly depict everything as it is in the books.

The Red Wedding of the book was more horrible to me than in the show. The character of Rob was besmirched by the show's version, imo, and the betrayal by Frey all the more heinous. But that's just me.

I do think last season was such a dramatic departure from the source material as to make it A Song of Dan and David.
The Brienne/Hound fight was cool but changed the story too much for my liking.

I'm a fan of both too. I figure like the Purple Wedding was under done and Red Wedding was over done on the show. Both were plot twists in Sword of Storms for the Starks and Lannisters.

I do very much agree with you on that.

A slow uphill plot twist for the Stark family. A slow downhill plot twist for the Lannister family.

There's still a bunch of stuff yet to come in the show (heck, and the books) that I really hope gets shown and done justice. I can't believe it's still 6-7 months away.

Northy my friend! Good to see you here!

My main hope at this point is that they won't butcher Arya's trajectory.

Hey hey, you!

I agree, I really hope they don't mess that up. I also hope they don't ignore/mess up the Iron Islands stuff. Though...if what they're doing/might be doing with Dorne is any indication, I'm a bit worried. I feel like they'll do justice to all of the "Stannis at the wall" stuff though.

Yeah, Stannis at the Wall will probably be ok, but it will be hard to do justice to the journey south; and Samwell's voyage appears to have been scrapped already.

Personally, I found the Dorne chapters much less interesting than the Iron Islands.

Wasn't Sam's journey really important though.

And when comparing the Dorne and Iron Islands chapters, I kind of look at it as "Dorne had Arianne, while aside from Asha, the Iron Islands had...Damphair". Victarion's chapters were fine, but I admit to almost falling asleep reading Damphair's.

I consider Sam's journey very relevant - in the books. However, there's no son of Mance's in the show to be spirited away from Melisandre.

Agree Damphair was kinda boring; but when I think of the Iron Islands storylines, I include Asha's (Yara).
She's one of my favorite characters in the books, and her arc has already been messed up as far as being captured by Stannis.

The Moot would be wonderful to see but I have little hope of GoT doing it.

Well, the Kingsmoot kinda has to be done because they have to introduce Euron and Victarion and without it, both Asha and Theon's storylines get immensely butchered. Plus, without it, it drastically impairs Dany's abilities to get to Westeros without Victarion's Iron Fleet.

I haven't heard a whisper about casting for Euron or Victarion, have you?

No, I haven't either. Some people are speculating that them and "someone else", are being saved for Season 6 but...shouldn't Balon have...you know, in season 3 as it is?
