| Soz: Which part are you missing? If worst comes to worse, you can always go to the bookstore, pick it up off the shelf and continue reading it... I've finished a number of books like that... Quote:
Eh. About my username...umm, no. My nickname is actually Timeo in real life, which means "I fear" in Latin. Our class was learning Latin in grade 8 and we were conjugating some verbs (damn annoying) and we got to this verb and Timeo just kinda stuck on me since then... | |||

| Now I'm pronouncing the name in my head totally differently I don't think they really teach Latin anywhere here. My mom started to teach me a little bit though; it's going to be useful next year. | Darn it, darn it, darn it! If only Gaiman's American Gods had won the World Fantasy Award, it could have achieved an unprecendented sweep of all four major speculative fiction awards. Not that I'm disappointed that Le Guin won, but it would have been really cool for Gaiman to win the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, and Stoker awards. Also, there were two other awards handed out at the Nebula Ceremony: Grand Master: Ursula K. Le Guin Author Emeritus: Katherine MacLean For more info on what these two awards mean, the SFWA has explanations here: http://www.sfwa.org/awards/grand.htm and here: http://www.sfwa.org/awards/author.htm [ 04-21-2003: Message edited Soz ] | |||

| I finally finished Dreamfall by Joan D. Vinge. I wish I hadn't been so tired recently, otherwise, I would have finished it a while ago. I really liked this book, except for the end. Vinge loves to torture her heros in cruel and unusual ways and it felt wrong to end the book the way she did. I hope there is at least one more book in the series because Cat definitely still needs closure. I think I'll read Neil Gaiman's Coraline next. I'll stick to short books for now, so my fatigue doesn't hinder my progress and make me forget the earlier parts of the book because it's taking so long to read. | |||

| I just finished reading The Chronolith and it was really great. I was expecting something grander in the end, but it was a nice resolution. The mystery continues the whole way thru and it's very strange how the arrival plays upon the main character's life. And it's very scary how current it made the story feel... aka he used a Seinfeld reference | |||

| Hmm, it looks like no one is reading SFF anymore. I just finished Coraline and I plan to pick up LOTR: FOTR again now because I saw the movie again over the weekend and I want to get more in-depth with Middle-Earth now. | |||

| I've been on a mystery kick, actually. Haven't read sci-fi/fantasy in a while, though the library did get in the first book in the "Warriors" series that I mentioned a while ago (the one about the cats). So I'll be reading that sometime in the future. --Rachel __________________ GilmoreGirls.org Savvy? | |||

| Well, I did pick up LOTR again and I can't put it down! I've tried to read it several times and the first time I got mid-way through The Two Towers and never finished. Then I tried re-reading The Fellowship of the Ring last year and never finished. I guess I just tried to read it at the wrong times in the past. I hope to finish reading the books before the third movie comes out, and it actually looks like I might achieve that goal now. | |||

| the LOTR series was a tough read since it's not that exciting. I think it was better as a movie than it was as a book. I'd reread the Dune books and the Hyperion saga before i'd start w/ LOTR again... and even then w/ hesitation | |||

| I'm finding LOTR quite exciting and I like the book a lot better than the movie- which is always the case with books to movies, for me. I can understand why it can be a tough read though because it's long and there isn't always a lot of action going on. | |||

| The climax of ROTK was a total letdown b/c I thought it was going to be an epic battle, but instead it was that Gollum scene. It was a major letdown when I thought that Frodo and Sam were going to do something miraculous and do something grand. Then the whole Shire plot at the end of the book felt misplaced w/in that series since the whole goal of the series was getting to Moldor to destroy the ring, not the sidestory involving the Shire post the Hobbits' departure. But that's just me Anyways, Xenocide isn't that bad, but.. gotta love the buts... the tracing the lines w/ her body to cleanse herself was pretty stupid. Any god that makes you, in essence, pat your head and rub your belly to show piousness is a dumb diety | |||
