If Children of Hurin is anything like The Silmarillion, I'll save it for my next bout of insomnia.

Define "compelling subject"? The book's about a planet named Texas and its struggle to stay free from Empire and Cassiopeian rule. Central character is a Texican named Lexington Burns. In places it would drag and then there'd be jumps in the timeline, plus, as I mentioned before, the author was overly fond of the lengthy paragraph, IMO.

If you can find it in the library or the bargain bin somewhere, give it a shot. I finished it this afternoon and have moved on to Tanya Huff's third volume of The Blood Books, and I snuck in a quick read of the first chapter of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH when my friend returned it to me. Ah, childhood memories.

Mmmm, 'cause the first inhabitants were from the state of Texas. Yep, apparently a Blink drive, named after a Texan named Zed Blink, was created in the 1970's on Earth that enabled us to explore the galaxy and colonize other planets.

Don't recall ever saying I liked the book. Doubt I'll get anything else by the author. I probably did buy it because of the title - one of my bargain buys.

I finished A Wrinkle in Time last night so now I'm only reading one book - The Blood Books Volume III, which, I guess is really 2 books - Blood Debt and a collection of short stories called Blood Bank.

Hrm....I need to get books....alas, I'm waiting on all my series books to get caught up. I have 5 series I'm waiting on books from.....WRITE PEOPLE, WRITE!

Why not just get something from the library to tide you over? Or reread something you already have?

I know I said I was only reading one book right now, but I couldn't resist starting Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH when my friend returned it, and I zipped through the prologue of James Patterson's Cross the other day. His next one in the series is coming out this month, it might have been yesterday, so I need to get'r done. Actually, his books are usually quick reads. Somehow having really short chapters helps speed it along.

I could try re-reading. I don't like the library....it makes me feel weird going inside it.

Heh, you see the chapter numbers pile up, and you become optimistic.

I think the next star wars book comes out in 2 weeks.

My only problems with libraries are:
1) time limit to read the book (although the upside to this is it forces you to read instead of putting books on your shelves and letting them sit for years)
2) other people check out the book you want and don't return it on time.

That last part is the one that gets me....well, both of them do. Since I get yelled at all the time for taking too much time to read.

I finally found a Trade Paper copy of If At Faust You Don't Succeed.

I've been waiting a long time for that book. The trilogy will soon be complete.
