No problem. I still have several Lunas to read so if any of them are good, I'll be back to recommend them too.

Speaking of Lunas, I just read In Camelot's Shadow by Sarah Zettel and I didn't really like it. Now I'm reading Wintertide by Linnea Sinclair (aka Megan Sybil Baker) and I like it quite a bit. Sinclair is a new to me author that I've been hearing about for a while, but her books were hard to find. Now they are being reprinted in mass market paperback from big publishers, so I'll have a steady supply of her books all year.

In addition to reading Wintertide, I also started the anthology Powers of Detection because it's due at the library before Wintertide. The anthology is mystery/fantasy crossover stories. Anne Bishop, Simon R. Green, Laura Anne Gilman, Sharon Shinn, Anne Perry, and many others have stories in it. I have four stories left to read and so far my favorite is the one by Green. I'd like to read his Nightside series now (and I plan on recommending them to my cousin, who I think would love them).

I also bought Anne Bishop's Black Jewels anthology Dreams Made Flesh and I couldn't stop myself from starting it.

I've been reading The Snow Spider, I read it when I was about ten and loved but then I could never find a copy to read it again. I just bought a copy on amazon so I'm looking forward to seeing if it's as good as I remember.

I never heard of that book before, so I looked it up on Amazon. It sounds good and I love YA fantasy books.

I finished all the books I mentioned in my last entry. Powers of Detection was hit or miss for me. I really liked a few stories and the rest were mediocre to bad. Wintertide was pretty good, despite it following the same pattern as many other books I've read. And the Anne Bishop anthology was worth reading for the two novellas.

Now I'm reading Dragonsblood by Todd McCaffrey (his first Pern book written on his own) and it's not going well.

I finished Dragonsblood and it just wasn't the Pern I know. I don't think I'll be reading anymore Pern books once Anne McCaffrey is gone and her son continues the series.

Now I'm re-reading Becoming Human by Valerie J. Freireich. She never got very popular and she only wrote four books. It's really a shame because she's very talented and she seems to no longer be writing, so it's a loss to the world of SF. Becoming Human is about the clone of a traitor who gets involved in the same conspiracy his predecessor was involved in. I first read this book 10 years ago when it came out. I don't remember it too well now, so it's like reading a brand new book. I believe all of her other books (or at least 2 of the other 3) are in a loose series with
Becoming Human, so I wanted to read the first one again before reading the others.

I love the Snow Spider. There was a series on U.K Children's TV years back that I loved and I got the Snow Spider and the sequels out of the library and read them. I decided to buy them about a year back because I remembered them so fondly from my childhood. I found them just as enjoyable to read as an adult.

Soz - I'm actually just starting to read the Pern books now, I've enjoyed the few that I've read so far, Is Anne not going to write them anymore?

esmo - Wow, I had no idea there was a series, I would've loved to have seen that. I just found out that there were sequels as well I just ordered myself a copy of each, I hope they're as good as the first.

Anne is still writing Pern books, but Todd will take over when she dies. They have written one book together and have two sequels to that planned. I'm not sure if Anne has any solo Pern books planned, although I remember hearing that she wanted to write a sequel to The Skies of Pern. Dragonsblood has been in the works for a long time and I think it was to test the waters and see how Todd's Pern books will do.

I have a love/hate thing with Pern books. I love the dragons and the world of Pern, but I hate some of McCaffrey's views. And there are some Pern books I don't really like much, and then there's the Harper Hall books, which I love.

I finished Becoming Human by Valerie J. Freireich and I recommend it- if anyone can find used copies of it. If you like books that ask the question "what does it mean to be human?" I think you will like this book. Most of the books I've read with this theme involve AIs or androids, but this book has genetically engineered people in it who aren't considered human.

I recently read Schism: Part One of Triad by Catherine Asaro. I love this series, but I'm getting anxious for the prequels to be over and for her to get back to the main story. I enjoyed this though and look forward to the second half of the story.

Now I'm reading Shadow's End by Sheri S. Tepper. I started this a year ago, but I was too sick to read it at the time. Now I can't put it down and I'll probably finish in a few days. I love the way Tepper's stories unfold. The reader has no clue what's going on for a long time, then things slowly start to fall into place.

I took a bit of a break from SFF books for a little while this year because I think I was getting burnt out, especially with fantasy. I'm finishing up Phoenix in the Ashes by Joan D. Vinge now and I bought The Dawn Star by Catherine Asaro today, so I'll probably get to start that tonight.

I have been making headway in the pile of books I purchased several years ago from a bookstore that was going out of business. I finished the Robert Silverberg 1958 novel Invaders from Earth yesterday. It is kind of funny how far off he was in predicting the future in some areas and how close he was in others.

I plan to start Stephen R. Lawhead’s Merlin later today.

I actually started the Harry Potter books this month. I've just started the 3rd one....they're not as bad as I thought they were going to be.
