I have a vague idea about 1984 but I've never actually read it. It's on my list, with so many other titles. I should get off the internet and

eta: went to the bookstore today and picked up 1984 and Animal Farm. They look pretty short so they may get read sooner than some of the longer books.

You've never read animal farm? Boggle.

1984 is a quick read. You'll enjoy it.

Have you ever read Paradise Lost?

Pretty sure I had to read Paradise Lost in school, though maybe just an excerpt. Or maybe I only read part of it but was supposed to read the whole thing.

There are a lot of classics we skipped, not sure why. For whatever reason, I got stuck reading A Separate Peace and Lord of the Flies at least twice. Hated both of them.

I read 'Animal Farm' but it wasn't one I could really get into. Farm animals revolt and form a government. Not my sort of thing.

'Paradise Lost' was a really good one. It was an interesting point of view.

I'm not big on A Separate Peace but I found Lord of the Flies decent.

I read about that guy finishing Wheel of time.....honestly, I think it's a bad decision......no one's going to capture his style.

I liked Paradise Lost...and Inferno. Both were decent reads.

Also, since I haven't posted here.....everyone should come to this poll and vote on which fantasy series you'd like to have envisioned!

Which Great Fantasy Series Would You Like to See Envisioned?

I won 7 books either written by, edited by, or including a short story by Roger Zelazny on ebay yesterday. Would have gotten one more (I hope) if I hadn't been on the phone during the last couple minutes of bidding. There's another copy of the book I missed on ebay, but the asking price is kind of high so I'll pass for the time being.

Hrm....where are your priorities?! Real life socializing over internet bidding....really, I'm shocked.

Kind of had to answer. It was my substitute mom (calling later than usual!!!) I was thisclose to asking her to hold while I continued to bid. I can't help but wonder how close I got to getting the book.

I've heard that there are bots that you can download now, that will snipe auctions for you. Some even guarentee that you'll never lose an auction again.

The books arrived a couple days ago but I didn't open the box until yesterday. One or two look soooo familiar that there's a chance I already have copies somewhere in my mess.

Sounds like you need to organize your books into a spreadsheet or database

It's been a long time since I posted here (I have a post on the off topic thread which explains my absence). I'm not going to list all 60 books I read this year, I'll just mention some highlights. First, I finished reading all of Sharon Shinn's books. I discovered Tanya Huff, Michelle Sagara West, Diana Pharaoh Francis, Diana Wynne Jones, and Kirstin Britain this year. And I finally read more by Terry Pratchett, Mercedes Lackey, and Tamora Pierce.

I got to attend the World Fantasy Convention this year and I met tons of authors, went to readings, signings, panels, and the World Fantasy Awards. It was a lot of fun, but also exhausting and overwhelming.

I have one, but it's horribly out of date. Even when I kept up with it I still occasionally bought the same book again because I didn't have the list with me while I was at a bookstore.

Soz, welcome back! Glad to see you. Sounds like you had a busy year for reading. I've not heard of this convention, where's it held at, and more importantly, when is it?

Hrm, ok, so you need a spreadsheet, and a PDA. That way, it's always with you.

I recently picked up 2012: The War for Souls by Whitley Strieber. I finished reading The Grays so when I found out this one was the next part, I just had to get it. I can't wait to read it!

I've also been reading Communion by Whitley Strieber as well which supposedly details his own account of alien abduction. I've been somewhat skeptical when it comes to that topic but I don't know, he does make it seem very convincing.
