He was also in Day Break and Chuck.

Within Temptation's latest album was high on my rotation for several weeks after it came out. If you like gothic/doom metal then Virgin Black and Chalice I highly recommend. Chalice is lighter in its metal sound. Although both are great bands. Sad that Chalice broke up last year.

I always thought that Chalice and Nightwish were more similar.

Virgin Black is a great change of pace every now and then.

Both are local Aussie bands from Adelaide. The next Virgin Black album (CD 3 of the 3-CD Requiem trilogy) is reserved and I am still waiting for it to be released... Then later this year CD1 of the Requiem trilogy will come out. CD2 came out mid last year.

I feel that Jerry did a short cut and copy/pasted critic comments about both bands from some random sites.

I have a real Promo CD of Chalice's Chronicles of Dysphoria CD. They gave it to me at my workplace a few years ago when we printed their tour tee shirts.

Yes, I may be in Perth, but my workplace does print stuff for loads of other places throughout Oz and NZ.

HIM was my first venture into gothic/doom metal. Some fans over on the Sarah Michelle Geller forum are into HIM so I thought I'd give a listen. I liked the softer sounds of the "Buffy Bands" better but since I've gotten the "Love Metal" CD I find myself doing chores around the house with the volume cranked up.

I'll have to give some of your suggestions a try. Thanks.

I think Clint's just jealous that I know some of his bands.

Hrm, if you like HIM, you might like something akin to Lacuna Coil or Evanescence

I don't like HIM, but I do like Lacuna Coil and Evanescence. Also, Within Temptation, Tura Satana, My Ruin, Arch Enemy and HeavensDust.

Well seeing as I've already posted in a few threads, I probably ought to do the formal introductions thing.

I was actually contacted recently with the suggestion that I use the Sci-Fi/Fantasy forum at Fan Forum as the forums for my blog. Which made sense to me so here I am. And hopefully I'll persuade a few of my readers to stop by too.

Name: Eoghann Irving
Country: United States (but originally from Scotland)
Greatest Sci Fi Story: Hmm... just one? I guess for me it has to be The Lord of the Rings then.
Sci Fi Books or Movies: Both. I don't see why this is an either or situation.
Science Fiction or Fantasy: I probably read more fantasy than science fiction, but I have favorites in both genres.
Who would you like . meet if you could meet anyone: I have a feeling Einstein would be very interesting to meet.

Name: Melika or Ms. M
Country: Canada
Greatest Sci Fi Story: The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia
Sci Fi Books or Movies: Both. But I tend to go for movies more because it puts that visual in front of you, which can be more entertaining.
Science Fiction or Fantasy: Fantasy
Who would you like to meet if you could meet anyone: Nefertiti, Jane Austen
Favourite Band / Artist: Robyn, Natalie Imbruglia, AC/DC, Daughtry, Mariah Carey and many more....

Eoghann and Melika, welcome to the thread.

Eoghann, where from in Scotland?

Melika, quite a wide range of musical tastes. Would it have been easier to ask which ones you don't like?

A grew up in a village just outside Edinburgh. I'm actually going back for a 2 week visit next Friday. First time in 7 years so I'm really looking forward to it.

Plus I get to show off my kids to various relative who haven't seen them yet.
