Sanctuary Discussion Thread: #1 'Sanctuary For All!'

(From Tv.com) Amanda Tapping stars as 157 year old Dr. Helen Magnus, one of the first female doctors in the Royal College during Victorian England. She was engaged to Jack the Ripper, and also has a daughter from him, Ashley. However, Ashley does not yet know that her father is Jack. Dr. Magnus' father started a sanctuary for supernatural creatures, collected from all over the world. In her work with these creatures, Dr. Magnus has received age longevity.

I have watched the first episode from a torrent site, it has such a good story, acting, special effects - it surpasses much that is out there right now imho. It is a sci fi/supernatural/thriller programme that does not air on any tv network, it can be downloaded from the official Sanctuary web site: Sanctuary For All There are several people from Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis who guest star in this show.

These episodes are very high resolution! Amanda Tapping's English accent is sexy, although I do still hear some of her Native Canadian in there a tiny bit. Interesting seeing her with long black/dark brown hair. I was utterly stunned when I watched the first episode...for all reasons. Not just the above few reasons but many more that I can not put into words. You can watch the first 4 episodes in low resolution on if you don't want to pay for the episodes. Watch the free streams to see If you like the show before going out and paying for them. They cost a few dollars for each episode, trust me when I say this, that is bloody cheap considering what you get for your money! The first episode I did not pay for I did the naughty thing , but I have just registered with the site and I am going to buy these episodes and download them legally, this is the only way the show will continue by fans actually downloading them officially.

Each episode is only 17 minutes long, but they sure as hell cram enough story into those 17 minutes in which other Supernatural-esque shows such as 'Supernatural' need 40 minutes to show their story.

Could a Mod please edit the words [Discussion Thread] from the title of this thread please?

Never mind, I guess asking nicely to change a small thing is too-much to ask...

If you think about it, 17 minutes is just 5 minutes short of the 22 for a half hour TV show.

Gateworld has a bunch of information on this as well (big surprise there)

Have you ever heard of a show that is exclusively on a web site, will not be seen on tv, that is as professional as this one? A show where people pay a small fee to download the episodes to watch them? The shows survival depends on people buying the episodes directly. That is an innovative twist, I like it. It is possibly the future for our favourite shows to exist this way rather than lasting 13 episodes or one season only to get cancelled for some crap reality-tv show which-is-cheaper, in all ways.

Have you been watching the episodes? What do you think of the novel way of distributing this show? I hope producers/writers/directors and creators of other niche shows such as Jericho would try this avenue. I am positive the Jericho fans would pay to watch new episodes from a web site that produces new episodes in the same way as Sanctuary is. I would! After that finalé we had for Jericho....

Yeah I have watched both episodes, I was going to pay for them but have had a registration problem and even after 2 emails nobody has got back to help me so a bit dissapointed in that. the show itself is great so far the concept is great too a cross over of so many great shows it can only get better.
I like the webisode idea on the whole except for computer novices like me it can be pretty daunting and Ihope that it does go onto dvd and eventually tv , once the fan base grows enough to make it viable.
it really is an unusual way of ditributing it but I personally think this is they way a lot of new shows willtry out their pilots. I can see the networks catching on and going the same way until they build a fanbase. I would alos like to see shows that are being axed brought onto the net like this so we don't feel so let down when shows we love are taken off air with so much left to say. ie jerico , gilmore girls.

ETA for anybody wanting to watch the first 4 epiodes they are available free on youtube after that you will need to register and pay though

I agree with Jericho, but GG had 7 seasons, it had many years to tell its story, Jericho had 1 season. There are many other shows that had only 1 season or less that were cancelled but deserved a chance. This internet distribution is the best alternative that I have heard of so far. Pure genius.

I am liking the humour that is mixed in with the darkness of this show. Like the bit where that Sasquatch butler used Will's toilet;
Will: 'He flushed me out of my shower.'
Helen: 'Did he use your toilet? Oh that is so annoying, i'll be sure to have a word with him'

Helen: 'Will, there are creatures outside that door that make my butler look like a house cat by comparison. Sanctuary for All is not an empty motto. (Helen offers Will a scone while taking a sip of her tea) Scone?'

Will: (While observing the creepy monsters in Sanctuary) 'None of these things are running around free, right?
Helen: 'Don't be ridiculous. ...Exercise time isn't for another two hours.'

No episode 5 as yet.

I just noticed that the guy who acts as Jack the Ripper in sanctuary is in episode 5 of Stargate SG1's 7th season 'Revisions'.

The same actor also acts as the leader of Teyla's village on Stargate Atlantis.

Sancutary appears in next week's TV Guide magazine on its HOTLIST Best of the Web. There's a small picture of Amanda Tapping, the website address, and the following description: Stargate's Amanda Tapping stars in this Web series as a doc searching for monsters.
