HHGTTG Appreciation #2: So long and thanks for all the fish

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Radio series (BBC Radio 4)

Season 1 - 1978
Season 2 - 1980
Season 3 - 2004
Season 4 - 2005
Season 5 - 2005
Season 6 - 2018

Books

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979)

One Thursday lunchtime the Earth is unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with. Sadly, however, the weekend has only just begun, and the galaxy is a very strange and startling place.

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (1980)

Facing annihilation at the hands of the warlike Vogons is a curious time to have a cosmically displaced Arthur Dent and his curious comrades in arms as they hurtle through space powered by pure improbability - and desperately in search of a place to eat.

Life, The Universe and Everything (1982)

The unhappy inhabitants of the planet Krikkit are sick of looking at the night sky above their heads - so they plan to destroy it. The universe, that is. Now only five individuals stand between the killer robots of Krikkit and their goals of annihilation...

So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish (1984)

Left at the end of LIFE, THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING with the address for God's Final Message To His Creation, Arthur Dent let this crucial information slip his mind.

Mostly Harmless (1992)

It's easy to become disheartened when your planet has been demolished for an unnecessary hyperspacial express route, the woman you love has vanished in a misunderstanding about the nature of space/time, the spaceship in which you are travelling crashed in flames on a remote and Bob-fearing planet, and all you have to fall back on are a few sandwich-making skills.

The Salmon of Doubt (2002)

The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time is a posthumous collection of previously published and unpublished material by Douglas Adams.

And another Thing... by Eoin Coifer (2009)

Arthur Dent continues his never ending quest for a competent cup of tea in And Another Thing..., the sixth installment in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

TV series (1981)

Movie (2005)

Great books with a terrific sense of humour. It's been years since I've read them though.

I absolutely love Hitchhikers Guide! My favourite is the original radio play, but I love the TV adaptation, and the movie too. I've never read the books, but I've always meant to.

I keep using the meaning of life the universe and everything with my son to help him remember 6x7=42.

I highly recommend the books. I didn't care much for the movie.

The pout is funny.

They are all different. I prefer the radio play as that was the first version, but the TV show has a soft spot in my heart too. The movie wasn't so good, for sure, but some nice references in it.

I've never got around to reading the books I confess.

I didn't realize that it started as a radio play.

Oh yes. I have the whole thing on CD. None of the versions are the same I think it goes in a different direction to the books. I've updated the information in the OP.
