Lost in Space - The Movie Appreciation #1

What did you think about it? The movie that came out a few years ago. Like it? Don't like it? Haven't seen it?

I liked it up to the morning when they woke up on the ice world, well, when it was still an ice world, as far as we could see. Up to that point I thought the momentum was good, the plot was good, it was all very interesting and intruiging. I think it started going downhill during the little heart-to-heart between dad and son right before the dad left with Major West to check out the bubble. Will's sudden concern about, "What happens if you don't come back?" seemed really out of place because thus far in the episode, he was angry at his dad for not caring about him, and this sudden concern about his dad not coming back seemed to come out of nowhere. It also seem way too stereotypical with it all playing into his older self resenting his father for not returning. Which also seemed weird given that an adult should have understood his dad would have come back if he could. The whole time-warp thing I felt was too confusing.

Honest opinion - sci-fi time play works better if it's the central plot to a movie. For this movie, it was just thrown in at the very end and seemed very displaced and I think ruined the movie. I think it had great potential and I would love to see them recreate Lost in Space as a new tv series, but I think the ending ruined it.

I thin it would have worked great if it would have stayed going....I would have liked to have seen more about the ship from the future and a couple of other things....

All in all, though, Lacey Chabert, heather Graham and the girl that played the mom, nice in my book. Joey, I could have done without...but the doctor was nice....suitably evil.

Twilight isn't about vampires, it's about teenagers with sharp teeth.
Vampires don't "sparkle" in the sun: they screech in horror, burst into flame and wither to ash.

Who's Joey?

The cast was:

William Hurt - Professor John Robinson
Mimi Rogers - Dr. Maureen Robinson
Heather Graham - Dr. Judy Robinson
Lacey Chabert - Penny Robinson
Jack Johnson - Will Robinson
Matt LeBlanc - Major Don West
Gary Oldman - Dr. Zachary Smith

Matt LeBlanc - Major Don West

Matt LeBlanc who plays Don West is famous for playing Joey in Friends.

I did not recognise Angela Cartwright (Who for film buffs is the sister of Veronica Cartwright of 'Alien' fame) and Marta Chritensen (sp?) who are the original Penny and Judy, as journalists the first time I saw the film. I knew they had cameo's too!

Also for cameos - the guy who played Don West in the tv series also had a cameo. He played the guy we saw at the beginning who assigned Don West to the mission as pilot for the ship. Don't remember the character's name and I'm being too lazy to look it up. He was the one who told John Robinson, "I got your man, he just don't know it yet." He also took John and Don up to the ship where Don met Judy.

Interesting.

I just wish they could have brought the robot in somehow. It would have been so nice.

The robot was in the movie. The guy who did its voice was the same guy who did the voice for it in the tv series. I'm pretty positive it was at least, that's without going to imdb to double check.

Hmm, Joey in Space. I liked the film when it first came out but after repeat viewings I'm not so sure

I get that, but I have watched this film through many times. But then Gary Oldman is just a delight to watch!

You must have! I think they wanted to make more, but never had enough interest in it.
