Painkiller Jane Discussion #1

Thought I'd start a thread about SciFi's upcoming series Painkiller Jane.

What do you guys think of this? I think it is based on a comic, which I'm not very familiar with, but it definitely seems to be following in the tradition of girls kicking butt type heroines, like Dark Angel and Alias. I'm definitely going to check it out - I need more strong female characters in my list of TV favorites.

Since it will follow SG-1 and Atlantis I will probably give it a chance. I didn't see the mini-series, which could be either a blessing or a curse.

I didn't either, but from what I hear, it'll be ok. Though I'm not a big Lokken fan.

From what I've read, I don't think it's too closely connected to the prior movie, I think it's more starting from scratch with the premise. Which is fine with me, as I never saw the earlier movie version anyway, so I'd much rather they just started over.

So, Jane is like Wolverine, then - she heals but it really hurts while it's happening (and I guess it hurts more depending on what it is that is injured/wrong?)? Where did her powers come from (or is that one of the points of the story, finding that out)?

Actually, I think she doesn't feel pain at all, and it's the side effect of an accident.

I was confused after I read this, because I've never read the comics - so I looked it up on ScifiPedia, and it says:
Quote:
During the course of her first investigation with her new team, Jane discovers that she too possesses formidable powers. She cannot be killed. Plummeting from the 46th floor of a building and living to tell the tale definitely proved that. Unfortunately, she can still feel pain.
So, it looks like she CAN feel pain, but it didn't say anything about why she can't feel pain, or how/when she developed this power. I wonder if it is from something like an accident that caused it, or if it was from something physical or genetic, the way the powers develop in shows like Heroes?

Interesting. Apparently I need to watch the show more.

Thanks for the news dukesmom...I'll set the time aside when I get ready for Stargate.

Cryostar, I just noticed your sig - I loved Angel so much! *Sigh* I miss it!

As for Painkiller Jane, I'm feeling that all the things that are interesting about it are going to outweigh the possible negatives. I think that the premise has a LOT of potential. And because I always love characters like this (Buffy, Max, Sydney) who are out their fighting the big bads, but also having a personal element to it. And I wonder if maybe what made her have the powers in the first place is going to be a part of the plot? (Like Wolverine trying to figure out who "made" him, that kind of thing.)

It sounds good. I loved her in Mortal Kombat: Combat and hated it when it was cancelled. Can't wait to watch this show.

There was a show that was supposed to come on Fox called Fear. It starred Rachael Leigh Cook and it was about an FBI agent who has no fear in her. Sounded good but for whatever reason they chose not to even air it and let viewers decide of they liked it or not. I hate when they do that.

She was in MK?

Thanks Missmin...I miss it as well. The comics just aren't the same.

Brief preview, with 5 new photos. Everyone in this show is really good looking!

And I like the info on the story that the show's going with - though I don't think it sounds that much like Heroes, myself, if it's from a comic it's been around a lot longer than Heroes has anyway. (Also, no reason you can't watch both!)

Thank you again missmin. I think painkiller is probably 20 years old or so, I'd have to do some research just to be sure though.
