Interestingly, ST : Discovery adopted a few changes in its latest S02E01, which I believe are due to the success of The Orville. For instance, Captain Pike insisted on making a role call, i.e. introducing ALL characters on the bridge. They had never done that before....I didn't even know the names of some of the characters. That's very unlike ST, and the Orville always made sure every team member is properly acknowledged. The other thing is jokes, for instance the sneezing in the Turbo lift. Discovery has adopted that now as well....and it was way overdue! They must have noticed that the show was too dark and that shows like The Orville were much closer to the ST feeling.

Just saw the latest epi. Loved it. Great writing. It's all about leadership, just like Picard.

I disagree! I think we will see her again. It's going to be a weird and great romance...

Well said. While some people enjoyed the darkness of Discovery last season, I prefer more light hearted entertainment.

@ not knowing the names of all the bridge crew! There were a couple that we've seen routinely, that I had no clue as to their names. Pike's role call was a nice way to rectify that. You're right that they make an effort to give us names on The Orville. Last season there was an eppy where Kelly gave Ed grief for not knowing a crew member's name.

It's always been a ST:TNG rule that every character was acknowledged by name....the message was that everyone matters, even the ensign who only appears once. I found that quite disturbing on Discovery, that there were all these recurring characters that remained anonymous. I wonder whether that was done on purpose, or whether they just didn't think of it. I have a hard time believing it, since....as I said, on TNG it was a golden rule.

I am okay with Discovery being dark....not every Sci-Fi show has to be as much fun as the Orville. But even when times are bad, on a star ship....there has to be the occasional ligh-hearted moment, amongst the crew. It just shows that they go through something together.

Did you? Maybe I'll get used to her. It was nice that she came up with the idea to get Kelly and Bortus back.
