Mystery Science Theater 3000 Appreciation #1

Official Website

Anyway, I'm slowly getting back in to this show. Only started watching it again this year after having not watched it for a long time. :look:

I think SyFy needs to start airing these again.

Gah! I'd never spell Sci-Fi that way. :pout: I don't care if that's what they call themselves now.

Comedy Central or Sci-Fi network...either way I wouldn't mind as long as one of those two reruns the show. I always loved their 1950s shorts. Some are just downright creepy enough to brainwash you had it not been for their commentary.

Then there's the infamous Mr. B that they did.

Cryostar 06-15-2010 06:13 AM

Somewhere, here in st. louis, they have a monthly airing of MST3K. Usually, it's a double feature.

Lain 06-16-2010 11:56 PM

Really? Local network?

Cryostar 06-18-2010 05:38 AM

Not network, in an actually movie theatre

Lain 06-19-2010 08:08 PM

Wow, now I officially hate you out of jealousy. :pout: :P

Which one's your favorite one?

Cryostar 06-22-2010 06:04 AM

Wow...i have to pick just one? Maybe Killer Shrew...but honestly, any of the giant monster movies were great.

Then again, any of the classic scifi movies were awesome too, since most of the stuff that amazed them already existed by the time mst3k was filmed

Lain 06-22-2010 06:18 PM

Well, technically not only one...I just figured you might have something favorable.

Aside from the crazy riffs on those 50s shorts, film wise would probably have to be Eegah, or something like that. Crow makes that remark in the opening title that the movie title was bleeding.

Cryostar 06-24-2010 08:06 AM

you know what i found best, is that most of the remarks were ad libbed.....

Lain 06-29-2010 12:29 AM

Wasn't Mike the writer for the show during the Joel era? I remember reading that tidbit somewhere before.

Anyway, if it was ad-libbed, I'm impressed.

Cryostar 06-29-2010 06:37 AM

I think he was.

From what I remember, they watched the movie, recorded a note, usually a subject, and the time in the movie it happens. From there, it was all ad libbed.

Lain 07-07-2010 08:39 PM

Interesting tidbit.

I saw the Trojan condom riff they did. At first I thought it was one of those fan made ones but they actually did it.

Slightly off topic but I have found Rifftrax shorts compilation videos on YouTube (the other YouTube user that had a collection of those vids got their account suspended).

Once again, we're the only two here and it'll take at least a year before someone else actually posts. Sad, huh? ;)

Cryostar 07-08-2010 08:21 AM

The life of the scifi board, i'm afraid. once something goes off air, the attention span of your everyday tv viewer forgets about it :P

Lain 07-08-2010 09:16 AM

So what does that make the both of us? :look:
